Thanks guys, just ordered some from Weenotions and some organic cotton tooThe stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

I made my own some years ago. Just used a flannel type cotton candy striped old sheet. They have saved me a fortune. I still occasionally use the disposable ones on particularly heavy days, but the home made ones are great for when its on its way out.
I even hang mine out on the line, but usually behind some other items, just incase the neighbours get the heebiejeebies.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Very useful thread, thanks. Have taken the plunge, and bought some Popolini towels, which seem to be the cheapest available - not a cute as some of the others, but personally, I prefer plain cotton. From £1.35, including 2 removable pads (says they're suitable for use as panty liners without the pads): http://www.littlelams.co.uk/html/for_mum.html

I used terry squares for two of my three kids and with the last one I used my own wipes too. I have considered a Mooncup but with a tilted uterus and a cervix that has a mind of it's own where it'll sit I don't think I'd have much luck.
I don't think this makes any difference. From what I've read on the Mooncup site, menstrual cups aren't like caps/diaphragms; they sit relatively low down, and rely on the suction from the vaginal walls rather than around the cervix.0 -
Interesting thread... I'm a mooncup convert now, but I had to ask...
What's the deal with wicking and disposables making the flow heavier? Surely the pads can't wick what isn't there? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Has anyone had any success with this site? I've waited weeks for these, emailed them several times, and have now discovered that not only does their phone number not work, but they've moved from the address listed on their site. Fortunately, they don't seem to have taken any money for the products, but I'm not too impressed!0 -
re. the comment "why don't all women get the implant?"
Many women, myself included, can't physically and/or emotionally abide any form of hormonal contraception and therefore are very limited to what we can use. I'd tried various hormonal contraceptives for nearly 9 years until June this year when I came off them all, and I feel so much better physically and emotionally. It's weird having a menstrual cycle again, so I'm looking into this washable liner idea because I'm also really getting into doing my bit to be kinder to the environment.
I never actually stopped and thought about where all the used tampons and liners go.....it's disgusting! I used to just mindlessly throw all my junk into the bin without thinking.0 -

Firstly BIG thank you to the OP and subsequent posters....
I've found this entire thread to be very inspiring and armed with google found this link (apologies if it's already been used before...)
http://www.sunfloweronline.co.uk/section.php/109/1/sanitary-protection
looks like a good source of information for all sorts of enviro-friendly products
although they only seem to stock the mooncup, the other products look good from the point of view of the environmentally concious.0
