I really wasn't aware that there was such a thing as washable sanpro, so I am so glad I found this thread. I have some gyno issues, which mean some months I need sanpro protection 24/7 and it really upsets me to think of where all of these things are going to. I have string and organic cotton bags for my shopping , try to be old school around the house in regards to cleaning and grow my own veg etc. So it has annoyed me for so long that I have to throw away sanpro on a daily basis (I hate throwing ANYTHING away)- I can't use a mooncup because of my medical issues.
After reading this thread today I have checked out many, many links and I am trying to decide between angeltots angelpads and some wee notions. Even the husband thinks it is a great idea.
Thanks everyone, I will let you know how I get on.:DAnyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.

Well Ive tried the mooncup! No its not like an abattoir! No more messy than tampons. If anything-less so-so far.
Got to get used to the feeling though-the slight suction feeling and maybe a slight pinching-I may need to fiddle with it a bit more but so far so good. Really comfortable lying down I found-brilliant at night Im assuming. No leakageand it doesnt spill when you take it out-just read the instructions properly. Now I wore mine to work today first time of use for 5 hours. No more soggy strings! I think this is going to be brilliant somehow-I will keep you posted as the week goes on!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
OK, this is going to be a really gross post, so ignore NOW if you hate gross posts!!
With the mooncup, did anyone else become fascinated by it when they first started to use it? The first couple of months, I was amazed by how different the contents were at different times in the week. My poor DH had a running commentry each time I 'popped to the loo'! Poor love, he was very good about it though and made noises which made it sound like he was listening!
Over a year in, I have got over it now (much to DHs relief!), but as it was something which I spent years just wrapping and throwing away SP, I was rather curious!

I make no aploigies for the following post: I live in the 21st century and as such will use 21st century sanitary pads &tampons. My periods are always on the heavy side and there is no way i'd go for an eco- friendly method, some times you can go too far with being eco. I'm living in 2008 not 1908.
I am eco-friendly in every other aspect of my life anyway:)0 -
OldMcDonald - I wouldn't say fascinated exactly but I was surprised to discover how heavy my periods are, if a mooncup is supposed to have 1/3 the capacity of a whole period... well... I guess I don't need to elaborate!0

I have very heavy periods too and am actually prescribed medication for the pain because they are so bad but I use a Mooncup and have never looked back. I have to empty it about 3-4 times per day during my period because it does get full but it's so easy, I feel good about helping the environment and I don't have to spend out on tampons. My periods last 7-10 days and for about half that time are VERY heavy: ie the super-plus tampons would need changing after half an hour on my heaviest days before. Now, I don't need to worry about that, the Mooncup is great!0

Personally, my choice to do so wasn't just environmental. I prefer washable pads. They're softer, more comfortable, more breathable, easier to use and cheaper. I also have a washing machine, unlike those who lived 100 years ago.
I haven't had a period in 2 years but when I do I certainly won't be going back to irritable disposables that move around and bunch up.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I had never even thought about this until reading this thread a week ago. As well as the environmental issues, what really, really, annoys me  about sanitary towels is the 5% VAT that the government gets for them. My understanding of VAT over the years is that it's a luxury tax
But, I went on ebay and ordered the liners, they arrived today, and I can't believe how pleased I am with them. So much, that I've just ordered the towels.
And with regards to the VAT thing, there are a couple of petitions on the go:

It's not that many years ago that it was taxed at the standard rate of 17.5%! I would certainly like to see reusable ones zero-rated for VAT.0
