I cant get this 18866 dialup via bt to work.

I have put 18866 01214789200 into the space for the phone number to be dialed and I am told the phone line is busy.

I have also tried ringing the number but get and engaged signal- but if I ring the number without the 18866 infront I get through straight away.

    Anyone any ideas?

I am on NTL line. can any one help me cheapest ISP for my NTL line as some ISP does not support or work on NTL line as Fast4 which is good value which I used until I have BT lin. may me sunil can help me. Thanks.
  • Please note! 18866 DOES NOT WORK with BTInternet 01214789200. The BT network does not permit this geographical ISP no. to be accessed with 18866. (As noted by one of the posts above).

Also, the virgin.net geog. no 01483 881766 does not appear to be in operation now. Does anyone know if it's been knocked on the head or is this just a temporary issue.

You can't do it with BT but if you join Talktalk you can do it via them.

TalkTalk are offering free evening/weekend calls for a year to new customers + £10 if you are referred by someone (see my signature)

If you then need to connect to the internet during the day, then you can use 18866...

    Regards
    Sunil

can confirm the local geog number I call on dial up ( rare as also got BB) via TalkTalk appears free ( although when accessed via a  similiar BT package it was charged)

I don't know who the cheapest dial-up ISP is for NTL lines - as you say your choice is limited.

I suggest you have a look at http://www.ispreview.co.uk/ - you are likely to get some answers there.

  • Hi.

Could someone tell me if it would be possible to use one of these companies for dial-up access on my laptop but using my mobile phone as the modem? I have set it up on my laptop before but I think it was an 0845 number. What would be the way to do it? I have 1899 and 18866. Would I use one of the geographical numbers earlier in this thread? Which one would people recommend? How do I sign up for it?

  • Hi Gang!

Hey, We've really started something here!

Must doff the old titfer to Sunil, a real cool dude!

I have been using a succession of access numbers, in combo with 18866, but each one lasts only a session or two, before it succumbs to the "Satan Bug," and is blocked, presumably by 18866. They must be on my case now!

Anyone with a cure for paranoia!?!

    Cheers,

    D.
Thanks to all who've gone before, and those yet to arrive.
