Best Android Handset at around £100

My wifes Orange San Francisco has died :(
(was unlocked, rooted and romed to 2.2)

What would you recommend as a replacement Android handset at around the same £100 price? Is a replacement like for like SF still the best for the money? I would image not as things move so fast in the world of mobiles..

Needs to be unlocked or unlockable as we use the GiffGaff network.

Anyway, ideas are most welcome.

Many thanks,

Mark

I think you will not find anything else with the same specs at this price.

The best Android phone out for around £100 is the...

    Orange San Francisco!

    Or possibly an HTC Wildfire.

If you had the San Francisco before and liked it, then I'd stick with it and get it again.

At <£100 price point, IMO nothing touches the SF

Another vote for the OSF. You simply won't find a phone that is half as good as the OSF for £100.00

The HTC Wildfire generally sells for more than the OSF but in reality it is a lesser phone. The Wildfire has a marginally slower processor and a grealty inferior screen.

Don't delay buy another OSF today :D

Last I checked there aren't any amazing deals on the go for it but Tesco do it for £109.00 (£10 top-up inclusive and there are some codes around to take £15.00 off this price and don't forget quidco/topcaschback).

Orange stores (not online) do it for £79.99 (but you need to buy £20.00 credit) effective price £99.99

Yep the OSF is the best going in that price range.

Her OSF died? How old was it? Do you feel that it lasted as long as it should have and are happy enough to be shelling out for another handset within the timeframe she owned it?

Product longevity is, in my view, at least as important as marginal feature advantage.

For what it's worth, I have an LG Optimus One which seems to do what I need it to and is in the same cost ballpark. Probably not as fast as OSF.

    LG Optimus One
    Screen Size: 3.2 inches
Pixel Density: 320x480 pixels (Medium Density)
Processor and Speed: 600 MHz ARMv6
    Camera: 3.2 MP
    Stock ROM: 2.2 Froyo
    Price: Circa £150.00

    ZTE Blade (OSF)
    Screen Size: 3.5 inches
Pixel Density: 480x800 pixels (High Denisty)
Processor and Speed: 600 MHz ARMv6
    Camera: 3.2 MP
    Stock ROM: 2.1 Eclair

So the OSF wins on screen size, screen density and price. The Optimus One wins on stock ROM as it comes with 2.2 but as there is such a strong community behind the OSF there are numerous ROMs available including 2.3

Both phones are matched on the processor and camera.

In my opinion the fact that the OSF has an infinity better screen and is a good £50.00 cheaper than the Optimus makes it the clear winner.

what happened to the OSF for it to break....could it be covered under guarantee or was it dropped etc

I love my OSF and will buy the wife one when her contract expires....incidently saw something about a new ZTE being released later in the year, bigger screen and better camera but no price revealed yet. I too use giffgaff and love the unlimited internet..exactly what smartphones were made for

What makes you say that the camera is better? gsmarena say that the camera is shocking (not after an argument, just an observation).
