Take you chances at an auction/free paper/ebay. That way your not paying over the odds for the car (dealer has to make a living somewhere). Think you will find it hard to turn a profit on a dealer bought car (IMO) .
Took the words out of my mouth. Will be lucky to get half of the money back if buying it from a dealer.0 -
Nothing wrong with a cheap focus - that's just what early ones are worth, see them going at auction for literally a few hundred pounds all the time, often with a decent length of mot and looking in pretty respectable conditon.
The Td-di is a bit of a rough and slow old engine, but also good for hundreds of thousands of miles if decently maintained0 -
Td-Di is an old engine, but very good, bit pricey on the road tax, but never mind. I have had 2, 1 with 180K and one with 195K, both started on the button, gave roughly 50 MPG and never let me down!!

OH! Kilty, forgot to say, recently traders have been selling cheap cars and trying to give no warranty by stating 'trade sale' on invoices etc.... If they try it remind them that, if you are being treated as a trader then you want to purchase the car at a trade price, then offer him half!! If he says no, then ask him for the VAT off, because you must be able to reclaim that!!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

A couple were completing the sale on the Focus when I walked in to ask about it!
Looked like a belter for the money - proper bargain.0 -

Meh... I own one, they're not all that great. Average, cheap runabout with a plasticky interior, nothing more.
They're a step up from the Astra (the mid-2000s model of which made a lot of French cars look well made) but they're absolutely nowhere near as good as some make them out to be. I'll be going back to Jap when I'm finished with this one.0 -
Bah, can't find much locally (that Mondeo is still advertised)
There's a Y reg Primera 1.6 up for £749 with 1y MOT, tax Aug but it's a private seller - I don't have insurance to take a test drive
1.6 Peugeot 405 for £595, MOT Jan but untaxed - it's in the centre of Edinburgh though, not sure I can be @rsed :rotfl:0 -
They're a bit bloody expensive up there in Scotland aren't they? I've noticed the price of fuel is a bit stupid as well!
£750 for a Y-reg Primera is too much as well -- I only got £285 for mine which, though cosmetically a shed, was mechanically still good for a fair few more thousand miles.0 -
There's certainly not as much uber-sheds available up here - maybe is at auction though.
Rover 45 1.6 - run as fast as I can?0 -
You'll only be owning it a few months -- I don't think the HG problem is that much of a nightmare in this timescale given everything else that might go bang.
I wouldn't be scared of the Rover, if it was cheap enough.
Find yourself a mollicoddled Kia Mentor and pay £200 for it, you know it makes sense....0
