I'm 22 and love this site, all the hints and tips have helped me get through four years of university virtually debt free, no credit cards just a £3,000 student loan from my first year! Though I'm working full time now there are still lots of good threads and updated in the newletter that help my wages go further! I just wish more people latched onto the money saving way!!

I'm 21 and half a 5 month old daughter, so not the youngest. But I do plan to bring my daughter up as OS as possible. OH is fine, thinks I'm a bit mad sometimes (stock-up, have stuff in cupboards at all times, etc), but absolutely loves my cooking - he told me the other day that the only chips he likes are ones from the chip shop and ones that I make!
Huh! I asked my OH to wash DD's bottles and off he went (under much duress! and after much as he says nagging - btw, if they did the stuff when we asked them, we wouldn't have to ask them loads of times!) and when I went through to the kitchen, he had used loads of washing up liquid! :mad:lil_me wrote:my DP doesn't do the housework, has washed up 3 times in the 9 years we have been together. Wouldn't know how to use the washer/dryer etc.0 -
My eldest (10) isn't actually registered on here but I do keep trying to teach her to manage her pocket money and turn of the lights etc etc - gradually getting there.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0

I'm 27 with DH (37) and 3 kids (2, 3 & 4).
We moved from Essex to Bucks 8 months ago for hubbies work and since then MSE has gone out the window. My main new years resolution is to get back on track with the budget.
I grew up VERY OS, we grew all our own fruit and veg, made all our own meals/baking etc. Mum made all our clothes by sewing machine or knitting. She also made curtains, bedclothes etc. "New" clothes were from charity shops and we didnt have a tv till I was 11.
I find it difficult sometimes not to go and buy things for the sake of it. I have my mum coming from NZ next week, she is staying for a month and I'm going to take full advantage of her knowledge. We do save each month for the kids and DH's other daughter, we also save into 2 endowments for ourselves but we have a VERY hefty mortgage and £2.5k on CC's which could really do with clearing and NO pension provisions.
I love that there is this massive age range in OS, each generation can share with others, we all help each other and TBH I think thats what makes this board in particular so popular and friendly.
Thanks to all of you for your stories and inspiration!!

I love finished on puter. I say that too even though I'm 28. I say to my bf no puter until you've done the dishwasher.
I didn't do much OS stuff until I found this board either, my mum who was great at financial planning and waiting until you had money to buy things planning rather than getting into debt was also rubbish at cooking so it's only recently that I started eating nice food cooked by myself. Before that I lived on ready meals.MFi3 member 105 - MFW date Oct 2023 - 12 years 9 months more0 -
Helloo I'm 24, unfortunately I didn't find MSE while I was a student as I now have a massive student loan
Still I am a student again, and now managing to pay back debt well, in addition to not having any new debt so that's got to be ok. It's lovely having lots of younger people on with little ones. Both my sisters are expecting, due in Jan, so I am super broody (never thought I would be writing that). Families are great! Especially OS ones

I just wondered if there were any other OS-ers on here in their 20's? And how many?
I LOVE this site, and mainly OS & DFW - but there are so many people of a similiar age 'out there' to me who have no idea, spend all of their wages (well, that used to me actually before I got into debt, but thats besides the point  ), only spend money on booze and just generally waste sooooo much and spend more money than necessary.
Dont really think I have a point to this post other than that I couldnt imagine not being OS or MSE - I dont know how people can afford not to be? And this is me talking without having a OH or family to feed.
Do you think more people are in debt than the statistics say? (this is not a criticism to people in debt obviously, as I've been there done that), but I dont know how non MSE people can afford to live the lifestyles they seem to as things are bl**dy expensive.
Pleased I got into debt and found this board. I know you dont hear that every day but I dread to think how much of a mess my life would be without having my lightbulb moment and ultimately finding this site - and knowing there is a whole community out there. Makes me feel like not such a geek! hehe
Love the 'what OS things do only you do' (or the title along those lines), taken me hours to read!

i do agree with what you say about more people being in debt than is relised im glad to say i am not in debt and never have never will but i can understand how and why people get into debt so easily, i know im here to find ways to keep our costs down as everything is getting more expensive and the wages dont seem to be riseing to stay in line with it but enough of my rants im starting to sound like my mum lol0 -
