Hi,
Fantastic thread! My god I soooo wish this site existed when I left home at 16 and had my first baby. Im 25 now..married,2 kids, own home...I absolutley love MSE..its always the 1st site I go to everyday. Ive strayed from Old style just recently but am pulling myself back into the swing of things lol!

My girlfriend and I are both 20 and regularly use the site. We even went to the filming of the Wright Stuff last week because Martin was on the panel!0

I am 34 with 2 kids. DH thinks the website is good but sometimes I wonder if the theory and the practice actually match up. I lost my job yesterday so from Jan we will be £800/month down - we are putting things into place to make necessary savings ( like joint bank account so we both know whats going on with each other's money etc) but i'm wondering...when it actually comes to sticking to the budget and really sticking to the more restricted "amount of cash allowed out of the atm", will he do it??0

im 22, i have just become debt free!!! Newly employeed at my local council, entered the pension scheme and have founds loads of friendly & helpful advice throughout the site in ways of splitting up my finances into a more manageable state. Loads of freebies and other saving ideas
i think i must be on here everyday, looking for new tips and ideas and i am much happier without the heavy load hanging over my head

I think none of us want to get into debt but it's just TOO DARN EASY & some things are too difficult to get without credit of some sort or other. Personally it's having a little extra that`s our problem - all bills/essentials paid but not having just the odd £20 for a cheap luxury is just not nice. We've `nuff for xmas - have been buying all the little bits you like for weeks - bought my turkey `on special' in Oct and been checking dates of everything else weekly since. Hope I get a decent bonus - or at least a bonus of some sort and that it aint a Debenhams/House of Fraser/John Lewis type voucher - don't ever enter them stores so pretty useless for me - much happier with Primark if it has to be a voucher - please ! Any ways - this site keeps me sane - sorry -but it IS nice to see people have their own probs but aint just moaning bout `em & are DOING summit. There`s always a good thing to read and a nice comment - usually a funny one too. Thanks to all who make the effort.0

Hi There
I'm 23 (only just though!), I have a house, a hubby and a (money-eating) dog. I LOVE the OS board, my hubby is a regular MSE user but he likes to ponder over 'manly' things like the techy board etc! It has stood us in good stead though- we couldn't have managed to save up for our house deposit (and get a good mortgage deal), pay for our wedding and more recently start saving for my pension without MSE. This OS board is going to send us on holiday in 2007 (although at the moment, it'll only be a week in the lake district!).
It is very VERY easy to grow up nowadays not knowing anything about how to handle money or a household. They don't tell you in schools- quite often your parents dont tell you either and you are suddenly out in the big wide world and can get into very deep water.
My Sister-in-law (bless her) is the same age as me and is due to move into her first house soon. She honestly thought that council tax was only paid by people who lived in council houses! She hadnt bugetted for it at all! :rotfl: When I stopped laughing I thought "Hey, who DOES tell you about these things if you dont go on MSE?'...I dont think it was up until long ago that she stopped considering that tuna was a derivative of chicken - she called it "chicken fish". She very nearly got ripped off with a massive mortgage rate until at the 11th hour me and her brother realised what she was blindly signing up for and found her a better one with the help of this site. Just shows how uneducated people are today about finances/the real world.0 -
How lovely to realise what a range of nutters we all in fact are!

Sammy,
On the subject of saving for holidays last year me, my sis and our respective fellas had 3 days in Cornwall after saving the tokens from the Sun newspaper. We were on a really lovely Haven site right next to the beach and in total we paid £35 and then spending money when we were there. Peak season too - it was fab. Well worth buying the paper every day!
Good luck to everyone with all their plans for those pennies!! :jWandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
Im youngish........ My other half laughed ( in good humour ) when I sent off for loads of freebies e.g quattro razor..... when he used it his eyes went wide in wonder and said " is there anything else you can get ?". I now have him putting his money into isa's and doing the savings fountain thing...... stick to it!0

Hey, I'm not the youngest, but fairly young - I'm 21, discovered MSE when I was 20. I haven't done that much old style yet as I've just moved back home after uni and mum does all the cooking etc, but have got some very useful info off MSE tho, and it's saved me a fair bit! Am saving up for a house deposit atm. My bf's just turned 25 and uses MSE too - kinda regret showing him it now, lol!0

Hi, I am 28 so not the youngest but I love this site. I went from full to part time work last year to spend more time with my 2 children so my wages went down loads. I am still getting the hang of this OS lark but it is saving me a fortune.... I am slowly changing my habits and look forward to one day being the perfect wife and mother :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0
