  • I'm 30 and when I first came on here spouting the ideas to my husband, he just rolled his eyes at the thought of yet another one of 'my ideas' that would probably mean he would suffer for the next month till I crashed and burned and then everything would go back to 'NORMAL'. :D
But I proved him wrong and he is now loving it! :T
I used the mortgage pig idea for us to save money towards getting a bigger house in around 5 years time. The whole family sit round the table every month making a new paper mache pig for our change to go into. Our aim was to save £50 a month but we have managed an average of £120. He made me laugh when he bounded through the door the other day exclaiming that he could 'feed the pig' with a ten pound note that he found on the pavement that morning - he'd been excited about it all day :rotfl: .
My next aim is to get the food bill down. Try as I might I can't get anywhere near as some of the posters on this site manage. I cook from scratch, menu plan and have now got a low stocked cupboard but still manage to spend between 80 - 100 per week for 4 of us
    I'll get there one day...
  • I'm 24 and all I can say is thank god I found this site!!

    Hiya

Im 24 and I gave up work to be a full time mummy this time last year. Im lucky enough that we can manage on my husbands wage as in the bills are paid and we can eat and have a little left over. Before giving up work I never knew about cutting back, saving money, finding cheaper ways to do things but since finding sites like these a couple of months ago im just starting to put things into practise and really seeing how far I can make our money streatch now. Im still prety new to it all but I have found some great tips on this site so far and now all I need is some extra time to get around the rest of the site when my 10 month old daughter allows it lol

Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice

I'm 27 and my DH thinks that my obsession with this site (particularly Old Style) is almost unhealthy. However, we now eat better than we ever did before.

DH now brags to his friends about how little we spend on food, but how healthily we eat (just don't tell him about the left over choc that I had today! ;) ). When I first left uni (after 3 years of cooking from scratch), I lived on ready meals due to the long hours that I was putting in at work. That was my excuse, anyway. :) Then when I met and moved in with DH, we slowly began to look at what we were eating............... and then I found this site, and the rest is history! I used to spend money for the sake of it - never mind the fact I had a loan because I was offered it.

The only loan that I have nowadays is my outstanding student loan - and what I owe on my car, but that will be paid off next year. DH and I have cut our spending on food and essentials down to £100 per month and our bank accounts look more healthy. It's quite amazing. And all thanks to MSE Old Style (and bits of the rest :D).

I love it here, and there really is no such thing as a stupid question.

PS Anyone want to do my washing up?

I think its great so many young people are on this site, i just wish i had found it when i was in my 20s, rather than the begining of this year!!!! (i had registered a while back, not realising about the forums!!!)
  • Hey I'm 19 and 5 days lol, never to young to be careful with money if more young peopel where there wouldn't be so much debt as a huge lot of it is down to us being silly at a young age when we dont really see what debt can lead too. x
