I also go in card shops of the pound shops and buy the best looking cards 5 for a pound!
When i see happy birthday teddies on offer for half price that will do some ones birthday , add the earings and the cheap card and they get a decent gift(s) and it didnt break the bank so to speak..

Yes, well done! You are amazing. I am both impressed (with you) and ashamed (of myself). The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Hi everyone,
After a recent discussion with my partner I have come to wonder how many 'younger' old stylers there are as he seems to find my 'ways' funny and I'm not too sure why really lol. I'm 30 mother to 1 son and step mum to 3 more (only at weekends) and have had an old style approach for as long as I can remember. My partner only moved in a few months ago and is still getting used to my quirks I guess lol. As a young girl I was taught basic cookery, sewing and knitting by my mum, aunt and grandma and when I found out I was pregnant and had a young child my gran and aunt taught me more complicated knitting styles and how to make clothes (mainly from my old clothes) for my son, I still make some (but not all) of his clothes now. I ALWAYS cook meals from scratch with fresh ingredients and I don't find it a chore it's just what I do lol.
Anyway the discussion came about as I was recently watching my 3yr old niece and was asking what she wanted for her upcoming birthday, she would like a blanket (with bobbles on for some reason lol) and my oh started moaning about where on earth we would find such a thing ... I replied 'don't worry about it il make one' and fished out a crochet hook (I don't crochet often it's not my strongest crafting skill lol) and set to making said blanket out of scrap yarn I have lying around ... Queue 'i didn't know you could crochet, I thought only my gran did that?' Sorry for the long post but Am I really that unusual in having an 'oh yeah, I can make that myself attitude?' Lol xxThanks!

Hi,
It's nice to know there are others out there he's made me feel a little odd lol. I've always been ribbed a little by friends (right up until they started having babies too and they all realised how much nicer hand made items can be anyway lol) but never anything quite so open before. I tried to explain it him using that angle, that iv never had much in the way of money (even as a child we were a 'poor' family) and this is my way of making sure we have the best we can afford eg for less than the price of a primark shirt for Charlie I can make one of much higher quality that doesn't twist or seams split while he's playing etc from cheap fabric iv picked up or even carefully cut from cheap charity shop or sale items ... He just doesn't seem to get it haha xThanks!

I am 42 yr old, married with 2 Daughters aged 18 & 17 years old. I a. 'OS' and proud of it, if any of their clothes need repairing or buttons sewing on they think nothing of asking me rather than throwing out the items which is what their friends do
I cook everything from scratch, make jams and pickles, cross stitch (can't knit) and pretty much try to make everything I can. My DH did find it odd to start with (second marriage 4 yrs ago) as these were the sorts of thing his Mum used to do with the WI. He still occasionally jokes about it now and all three of my lot take the mickey and say I am so tight I squeak but they all know how much money it saves us and are all trying harder to save money where they can.
I won't ever use my tumble dryer, I have a small caravan washer that I take with me when we go away as I won't pay the site costs of £3.50 a wash and when I'm not in the caravan I use the portable machine for white washing as I only have a few bits every now and then.
I also try and grow as much veg as I can but am limited with space and 2 tear away dogs but it does all help.
We are just wiser, well that's the way I look at it! Lol0 -
im not the crafty type and i find people that can are very versatile and can turn there hands to most stuff i make birthday cards but thats about my limit i can knit and sew with a sewing machine just basics like buttons and hems hubby just doesnt penny pinch at all me im not like that the only thing that i pay money for is decent shoes and jackets everything else is charity shop and definetly second hand stuff for the boys they grow to quick and they never now my mum was quite affronted at first when i told her she would rather do without but sometimes a please and thankyou goes a long way0

Hi Karmaqueen
I'm 30 and although I don't have any sproglets, I'm very into my OS ways. My two closest friends (30 and 31) are too. We love to knit, crochet, bake, preserve and home brew. Plus whatever other crafty bits we feel like.
My OH laughed at us for sitting crocheting together "like a couple of old women". To be fair on our youth though, we were drinking cider at the same time
At the moment we're all making bunting for a wedding. I'm seeing them this weekend for a gab and a crochet session
