I'm 31 but feel 22! Mum has always been OS, never wasting things and making do and mending where possible, though she never used her SC (I now have it - its brill!) or made own bread. She was so possessive of her kitchen that I never really learnt to cook more than the basics, but she does think I've done better than she did when she left home :j High prasie indeed!

    Hello

I'm 24, single, no kids and currently living with Mum and Nan. However, I've just bought my first flat - only able to cos I lost Dad a few years back and the inheritance worked as a good deposit. Moving out is more a necessity as there are three of us in a two-bed bungalow, with a dog.

Like many of my age have said, I've suddenly lost the urge to go out, meaning I doubt if I'll ever find Mr Right! Plus I get up for work at 4am Mon-Fri, and up at 5.30am on Sundays for work. So going out in the evening isn't really that easy as I tend to be in bed by 9pm - how sad is my life!!!:o I also hardly ever drink now, prefering a lime and soda when I go out instead. So glad to hear I'm not the only one in early-mid 20's like this!!

I found this site a few years ago and have been addicted ever since. Most of my friends think I'm odd for being OS, but then marvel at how it saves me money.

As others have said, it's not easy to make friends for me, so anyone who fancies a "pen-friend" PM me and let's get chatting!

Not the youngest at 32. And clearly not the only male either.

I do suffer from the same as many of you though in that every month my OH says we spend too much money, where does it all go, and then moans when I do anything OS.

She works full time, I work part time and am the househusband, and have severe rheumatoid arthritis making cooking with heavy pans very painful, but it is not stopping me.

The best thing I like about this site (apart from the thread about what do you do that no one else does, I've read it several time :-) ) is that everyone is pretty much in the same boat in here whether through choice or circumstance (a bit of both for me) and for that I am truly blessed, I could not even begin to OS my life without the tips, ideas, and friendly comments on here.

Hi Laura - have you thought about joining a stitch & b!tch group? I occasionally go to one near me, we tend to meet in nice pubs or cafes, everyone brings their knitting/sewing/crochet and you can meet some really nice people that way! It tends to be a lot younger than your average craft group, and some of the women that I've met are working on some downright cool & unusual projects! Google for it - I tried to post a link but the swear filter kept censoring my weblink! I know it might sound a bit scary the first time, but everyone's really very friendly! :D

Lol, thanks for the suggestion Liz - I was actually a member of a stich club....however other than my mother, they were all 65+ :D Bless, they're lovely women, just a little bit older than me.

That is the downside of living in a tiny village, with no public transport links to speak of. (Roll on 29th April...hopefully I'll pass my driving test lol)

    HI there,

Im 22, single mum to DS who is 6. Have always been OS, even before this site. I love cooking though! I kinda make our own ready meals, always cook twice the amount and freeze the rest for another day as i dont always have the time to cook a meal as i work a 40 - 50 hour a week, so there are some sundays where i just cook and fill the frezzer up.

Only problem is, since joining this site i have challenged myself to get my shopping budget down each month. There is only two of us, and i spend around £100 a month. The only real thing im fussy on is meat so i cant really get this down anymore.

I love this site too, far to addictive though.

Surely i cant be. Ok granted im only 22 but i dont think your ever too young to be O/S.

Bf is taking the  because he thinks im being silly because im registered on here. and i told him it has good money saving tips, and its helping us get by alot lately - he doesnt believe me and thinks im just daft. (worth bearing in mind that im the employed, debt free, household running one and hes currently umemployed (medical issues), in £15,000 worth of debt adn can just about work the tumbe drier if he has instructions left for him.

    Im loving it though because
a)everyones nice and friendly and offers lots of advice
b)i was never taught to cook by anyone so learning that now
c)never learnt how to run a household
    d)cleaning - what?
e)efficient shopping - wasnt likely 6 months ago

does anyone else get grief from their other halfs and surely im not the youngest on here??

I know how you feel. I am 21 and have been "nagging" about doing things OS since I moved to England (not that we do it OS in Argentina, but I lived with my grandmother and a cook for a mother, so)

My husband, thank god, agrees with me - but a lot of other people laughed at me "you're 19, you should be having fun not worrying about money"

Do a search on google for stitch & b!tch (the full word - MSE won't let me type it or put the link b/c it thinks I'm swearing!) - there's a link to find a network in your area. I sometimes go along to the central London one, they're very friendly and usually meet in nice cafes or occasionally pubs!
