I see what you mean, but they never gave me the full amount, took about 50% off as a deduction to my income?? I really dont understand the system as they were never giving me 80% in the first place. I will pay back anything overpayments, that is not the issue.

That may be all you have to do.

I've never understood how they work out the childcare element either, although I've never needed it so haven't really looked into it.

For this year, work out your average number of hours a week and average number of childcare hours, and give them that figure.

I work a four week rota so my weekly hours and income are an average. I also know self-employed people who average out their earnings.

I did that at the beginning of april so they have the correct figures now. Spoke to someone in the compliance office who said they will just work out the overpayment and i will have to pay it back, said i wont get done for it!
What a nightmare, all the years i didnt claim (8 years prior) and when i do it all goes haywire. Childminder used to let me down alot with not being able to do days because of problems and then not doing school hols - so still had to pay my mum for having them! Didnt make any money out of them - just the money was distributed differently to cover the childcare costs.

Is everybody getting these letters ? I renewed 2 weeks ago and haven't had anything at all through the post from them yet. Last year I had to call there special renewals department as they wanted to check my childcare, I gave them my nursery's phone number and told them to call and check, which they were happy with.

I got one of those letters too...but i didnt have my children in childcare for 6 months as i was traveling and a friend of mine said dont tell them anything...so i came back, started work again and thought they just didnt realise...now they're asking me to prove stuff and i cant!!!! Im so worried!!!!!!!!!! I still have the money they paid me, but im scared that if i say anything they will put me in prision............really need some help as dont know what to do??????
You won't go to prison but you will be expected to pay back the money you received which you weren't entitled to. Just send them the information they are asking for and they will adjust the claim.

The investigation Tax Credits run on childcare costs can impact on the childcare provider too. The childcare provider has to complete a tax return every year for HMRC and if the turnover they declare doesn't match up with the costs their clients are supposedly paying to them then they can end up having their accounts being investigated too. That's why childcare providers will not and should not confirm they are looking after a child if they aren't.

Im just worried that if im going to get myself in more trouble by giving the information they're asking for...as it will mean i've admited that i didnt use the childcare provider for over 6 months when i was still clamin!!!! also, scared to talk to them, like they ask in the letter and say that I cant get the information they're asking for, incase i end up putting myself in it, and they then suspect fraud!!! Head is melted, esp as im a single parent who works and has 2 very crazy todlers........think i might just ingnore the letter, and repay them when they ask for it????? or will that be worse????? really dont no what is best to do?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Dont know how to answer that one - hope someone can help you out - how much do you think you will have to pay back? Can you get advice from CAB?
I have been overpaid and rang them today and they said that i will have to repay what is overpaid - but shouldnt get hung for it.
Good luck with it! Try not to worry too much.

my partner is a childminder and often gets asked about the childminding fees she receives from tax credits,i don't strictly agree about the turnover declared as she knows a childminder who dosen't declare all her childminding fees and she too gets asked about her childminding she receives from tax credits ,and they have never questioned her turnover and the fees she receives is all from the same family, not fair but true

I owe them a large amount, being a single parent of 2.....was thinking of calling the cab. Dont no what to do for the best, but have til 24th to get the childcare info into them...and they have only said that they will "will use the information they already have to amend my claim" if i dont get the info in...just dont want to make a bad situation even worse. Cant even sleep, eventho, no there's no point worrying as what's happened has happened!!! My children are at a nursery, so pretty sure they already have the infomation from them anyways..... think im pretty screwed!!!! (well my head is anyways)
