tax credits are double checking childcare elements of awards hence the longer wait

they are check to see if a child is funded for 15 hours and people are still claiming full entitlement of care

when a child hits 3years the term after they get free funding whilst in early years nurserys

I havent yet renewed as only got P60 recently plus DD2 goes to school this year and wasn;t sure how much after school club wwould cost.

I am worried because I had told them previously that childcare had gone down and the man on the phone said he would pass it through to another team. He adjusted my income and that confirmation came through. I wasn't worried that the childcare still hadn't changed on the award notice because I thought it would be sorted out seperately. So I know I have been overpaid but as far as I was concerned it was in hand.

I've calmed down a bit since Friday but still very worried. I was meant to be putting money aside each week ready for whenI was at university.

If you have the award to prove you notified them, then you have a good chance of it being written off.

Try not to worry - get the paperwork together and take it from there. People on here will always help, whatever the outcome. :)

Im sure if u explain they will take out of this years. Or u can offer to pay them back. If they sent u to prison they wouldnt get their money back so wheres the point in that. Id speak to them tell them and see what happens.. if u pay them back im sure that would go a lomg way.

    Hi
Received a letter from compliance department wanting all receipts for last financial year from childcare providers, however, i have overestimated and so worried as childcare costs have gone down most weeks as got my mum to help out now and again (in school hols) as couldnt afford to pay for 3 children. Also, with my work, dont get my work rota only by each month, have also dropped my hours (so childcare dropped) and now am panicking as probably only paid out 60% of what was estimated.
Please help - dont want to get done for fraud and didnt ring them as there were changes to childcare weekly! Does anyone know what will happen? I cant sleep and feel sick all the time!
    Please help........
    thanks

Once they realise you have committed fraud, they will investigate. The outcome is anyones guess really.

You could be very lucky and just have to repay it.

You could be prosecuted for fraud and have to repay it on top of any punishment you receive.

Or something inbetween those two scenarios.

Best thing you can do now is tell the truth.

OMG it was not fraud, just my work is so erratic sometimes could not predict what exactly it would be, and my childcare went down as i dropped hours (and my income) I rang them in april to tell them everything that happened, but was late telling them. Now im even more worried|!!

The compliance dept give you a chance to sort it out and give them correct figures without penalty - should be on your letter somewhere.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

To be fair, we cold all use that excuse, couldn't we?

You knew you were using less childcare and you knew you'd cut your hours, so I'm not sure how you think it is anything but fraud...? Tax credits works on average earnings/childcare so you should have informed them. A 40% overpayment is significant, don't you think? We aren't talking an odd shift here or there, after all!

Maybe this is a chance for you to wipe the slate clean - I don't know - but I very much doubt you will get away with paying it back.

I see what you mean, but they never gave me the full amount, took about 50% off as a deduction to my income?? I really dont understand the system as they were never giving me 80% in the first place. I will pay back anything overpayments, that is not the issue.
