I regulaly get mail from the bank where we have a joint account offering me credit cards and loans. Its just wrong and should be made illegal. I do not earn any money so why on earth does the bank think that I can pay the loan back?
When my wife was reliant on an allowance from me, she had her own credit card, used it responsibly and had at least some feeling of financial independence as a result.
I think your post belongs to the 1950s.
Women are capable of using credit cards responsibly even if they have low incomes or their only income comes from their partner.0 -
Devil's-AdvocateI do refuse the cards and loans. My point is that I feel it is wrong that they can offer me the things in the first place.
opinions 4 you maybe it does belong in the 1950's but thats ok with me and mine. At least we are solvent and owe nothing, not even a mortgage.0 -
....got it, carry on!0

Why? Everybody gets offered stuff every day.0 -

As for the rest of your post, I've read it three times but haven't a clue what you're on about.
I did not say 'all'. But, yes, even without the "my little precious is special and needs bonus payments" premiums a parent with two or three children will receive twelve to fifteen thousand pounds benefits (plus housing and council tax on top).0 -

That's offensive and way off topic0 -
Yep, but did we oughta wind this story back a bit?If the question asked was about household income, the OP's wife has done nothing wrong in obtaining the card.
The subsequent spending is what has created the problem.
Who invited the application? Should the bank have known better than to issue invitations willy-nilly?
If the question asked was indeed about household income, and the OP's wife was truthful with all the answers on the form, then who invited the spending problem which became a 20 year debt?
When a surprisingly lax credit card agreement goes off the rails, is it perhaps not surprising in the current aftermath of mis-marketing / mis-selling of every kind imagineable that one big question might be "was the bank at fault"?
So, might they be?0 -

Well if you're right, then my wife and I have been missing out all these years. She is a full-time mother and recieves no benefit other than Child Benefit.
Or on the other hand, you could just be talking absolute twaddle about something you know nothing about. My Debt Free Diary I owe:

Aug 16 £19519 Dec 16 £17708
Sep 16 £18780 Jan 17 £17082
