So Juners (that's what I'm calling us, get used to it!
), the month after next we'll be able to register our intent to marry.
Who's like me and the OH and are so excited we're doing it ASAP! :j
(And then watch the next 12 months fly by!)
Ah your right... Haven't even considered this until now haha!
Update for us: Today we bought our favours - my fiance has finally made her mind up what she wanted and has agreed we will do scratchcards. Thinking we will scratch these off mid my speech and hopefully someone will get a decent win! She also has got her dress sorted now too, and just going back to get it finally ordered etc. next month.
Hows our other Juners, as John would say :P, doing?Saving for our next step up the property ladder0 -

Taking things fairly easy at the moment, we have what we consider to be the most important things booked and deposits paid;
Venue, Registrar, Priest, Photographer, Musicians and Wedding Cars. Also got fiance's ring.
At the moment we're designing our wedding stationary, but that's not going out until Christmas! Fiance is going to start dress shopping in June, so she's really excited for that!
Been told (by a suit hire firm) to wait until Autumn / Winter to start the suit hire process as they start putting deals on then.
Next things for us to look at; flowers, hair and makeup (although I'm pretty much bald and think I'm beautiful as I am, so think this may be the OH's territory! Ha ha!)
Also looking at our Honeymoon (fingers crossed, Hawaii!) but airlines don't release their fares until 12 months before ... so nothing set yet!"The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."

Ah yeh we have also been having a look at honeymoons but know what you mean about the air fares not being released! Not long now though!
Cheers for the tip about suit hireSaving for our next step up the property ladder0 -
Can I join too please?
We booked the registry office today for 14th June 2013! Also checked out a few venues today and think we found one! I've posted more details on our "planning our wedding thread" but thought seeing as I'm now officially going to be a June 2013 bride I'd join this thread too!:jEngaged 25/12/11 :j

Hi to all the newcomers to the "Juners". Caz2003uk what a good day to get married (same as us). We have started looking at our Honeymoon too. I quite like the idea of taking care of all the honeymoon plans and then surprising her on the day at the airport....might just do that : )
My fiance and I have still havent made much progress with organising much else since booking the venue and photographer. I'd like to get the stationery and maybe chair covers & decor done next. Was going to look at suits but might take up John tip and now have a look in Autumn/winter instead. Thanks to all that post competitions

Glad there's a couple of fellas in this thread! Are you annoying your OHs by getting involved in the planning as much as I am?!goldenshilling wrote: »Was going to look at suits but might take up John tip and now have a look in Autumn/winter instead.
Like I say, I was told that by the hire firm (a Cameron Ross rep) we're hoping to go through. If it doesn't happen, or they drop the deals they have on now I'll simply haggle them. Worth the risk really!"The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."

Hi Golden
We are on a tight budget but everything seems to be going well! lol
I didn't want to marry in a registry office, as our local one is really horrible and you walk out of there into the library! When you leave through the doors your facing the Market! Not my idea of a wedding day!! But the registry office we booked today is sooo much nicer and has really made me realise registry offices aren't that bad! The lovely lady we spoke to explained we can have our own music, just to put it on cd for them to play for us! Photographer (our friend) is welcome to take all the pictures he wants! We will be given a list of vows to choose from or choose our own! Also told if we want personal readings this can be done too!
It was a little more expensive at £194 for the ceremony and certificate (not oncluding notice to marry) than I first thought from reading the direct.gov website but still our cheapest option!
We then went to view a possible venue for the evening, it's within a small privately run hotel and bar, £100 to hire the hall, including the bar hire, he said could hold 120 but I don't personally think its big enough for that many so going to keep to 100! They said either they can do the buffet starting at £3 a head or if we want we can provide our own!! We can access from the night before to decorate and they have a late licence to stay open until 1am! We feel we are onto a winner!!
My mum has offered to buy my dress. my future MIL + FIL are giving us £500 towards the wedding, my aunt has offered to buy our cake (The cake is going to be from a friend of mine, she is fantastic and makes brilliant cakes! We are going for a top cake, with 100 cupcakes underneath on a tiered stand) Our bridesmaid has offered to buy hers and her daughters (also our bridesmaid) dresses. We are going to ask a friend of ours to bring his camera - he is a wonderful photographer! We are going to buy an SD card, and I will edit the photo's so he doesn't have to! My mum's friend has offered to do the buffet for us! Our bridesmaid's dad knows of a good but cheap DJ so fingers crossed on that one! - anyone would think we are planning this wedding for this year :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So we are happy today! weeeeee!! Wedding dress shopping starts tomorrow! Hehe just for looking and trying for now though but wow! Yay!!
Wow..that was longer than expected...im sorry! :A:jEngaged 25/12/11 :j

Care to add another fella?
21st June 2013.
Registry office and venue booked. Various other bits in progress (invitation and ring designs, menus, etc)
OH is happy that currently I'm doing more of the planning than she is, though that is often working out several options for her approval (or otherwise).
Timeline so far:
Proposed 31st March, chose a preferred date, managed to get our first choice wedding venue booked on the 2nd April. Provisional booking at our preferred venue 5th April, confirmed booking and paid deposit 13th April.
Now trying to work out all the other bits we need to do.0 -
All new comers added
Welcome to the thread guys... and definitely think us lads needs to stick together
It's been great being a member of these forums so far as I've got loads of extra brownie points from the fiance for deals and ideas from on here :P
In regards to honeymoons by the way guys - I just got a leaflet in the door this evening from First Choice inviting me to their 2013 holidays event this Thursday as there 2013 holidays go up and theres apparantly some discounts too... Actually said on the leaflet 'are you looking for a 2013 honeymoon?' lol.Saving for our next step up the property ladder0 -
Caz, sounds like you have got quite a lot sorted for you then. Its great that so many people are helping out with the wedding for you, Id imagine it makes it a lot less stressful. We are quite lucky in that the future MIL has given us a huge hand financially with our wedding which has taken a lot of the stress of us with having to save. We are still saving as much as we can as we dont want to over rely on the money but it is a welcome fall back.
Im kinda surprised how many fella's there are on this thread, you would imagine that the women would be the chief organisers but by the looks on here there seem to be a few of us guys taking the lead.
Speaking of honeymoons, like Allan I funnily enough had a phone call last night off our local Thompson Travel Agent to tell me that their 2013 brochures are now available and that there are a few early discounts to be had by going in soon. Think I will have to pop along and have a look.
Allan, any chance of being added for the 14th? Seem to have been forgotten aboutThanks to all that post competitions
