Nuatha, it was my sister that caused all the problems and the main reason why we've ended up going abroad. No family are going with us, some we we couldn't, some we wouldn't want, some that have explained their reasons why, and some who are important to me because they 'can't'. I've never asked for anything off them in my entire life and they can't take a few days out for me, it grates a fair bit but its their choice not to come and even though they try to make me feel guilty, I'm not!!! We will have lots of friends around us, after all, friends are the family we chose for ourselves!!!
At the end of the day, while they may not want to be part of your day, and it may hurt just now, it will probably hurt herselfs sister more in the long run when she realises what she has done.....
I'm mostly annoyed on behalf of Herself's niece and nephew who want to be there and currently won't be.
We're lucky in that everyone we really want to be there will make it, some travelling quite a distance. I agree that friends are the family we choose and they are the people who its important to us are with us on our wedding day.
My future sister in law will just have to cope with the fallout of her decisions, for once we won't be picking up the pieces.

I'm pleased you aren't allowing your family to guilt trip you. Hope you have a wonderful day.

I've finalised the design for the wedding cake, just need to bake it - first week of May (and start on the rest of the catering) oo how lovely, you'll have to post pics as you go along.
RSVPs have been coming in thick and fast, all positives so far. It's lovely isn't it. We have only had a couple of people say no - it's quite scarey as we totally over invited :rotfl:

The only blot on the horizon is Herself's sister, who apparently has decided that neither her or her kids are coming to the wedding - we didn't include her new boyfriend on the invite, she hadn't met him when the invite was printed.
I can't believe that, it is really silly.
Apparently, because she isn't talking to us and we're getting everything second hand. If she'd asked for a "plus one" she'd have got one, but with this behaviour ...
So it looks like we're missing MOH and bridesmaid, which is a shame on Herself's niece, but if her own sister's wedding means so little to her, then SIL2B can go fly a kite.
So they were MOH/Bridesmaid and now aren't coming? because you didn't invite someone who didn't exsist at the time of the invite?

I'm pleased we got most of it done last summer. I keep thinking I've missed something, but apart from the catering and the items above I think we're pretty much done.
I'm sure you've checked and double checked, so you could just enjoy our panic as the day gets closerPeople say to enjoy the countdown without having anything to do, but it just seems like wasted time to me :rotfl: that I could be using to do something

I think in the long run her sister will feel worse, however that's no consolation. What a horrible situation to be in.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Her point being that he did exist by the time she received the invite (less than two weeks after printing) and he's the love of her life and can't do anything without him (just like the previous dozen) pass me the cream, I'm sounding catty.
The worst is, she let her daughter spend the day with Herself doing wedding stuff and having her dress fittings the day after SIL decided they weren't going, and only told her daughter the next day, which I regard as being particularly cruel.

SIL's main duties were to walk Herself down the aisle and witness the signing of the register, easily replaced. Niece also has an integral role in the Handfasting which follows the legal wedding (we regard the Handfasting as the real wedding) which now needs a complete re-write - though we'll keep the original in the hope that niece does make it.

I'm trying not to be to vindictive, not sure I'm succeeding, Herself has enough on her plate without SIL playing drama lama.

You could offer a flying assistance service to brides in distress?
Detailed planning for the honeymoon, actually meant to mention this a while back, if you're anywhere near Cape Town, you might want to check out Boulder's Bay (a penguin colony).

I'm really pleased we followed your lead and did our planning early, but I knew I was spending the last couple of months doing the catering, which at least means I can't get bored :)

Having anxiety dreams about the wedding already!

Last night's was a combination of my mum moaning that there wasn't enough wine, my brother being chucked out of the venue and then suddenly realising it was time for the first dance but I hadn't practised for it. None of which will happen, I hope. :rotfl:

In other news, the alterations to my dress are finished and have bought dresses for the flower girls. Not too much more to sort out thankfully.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.

I tried on my dress today! :j

The colours are a little more muted than I thought (the ivory is a bit darker and the merlot jumps out a bit less than I envisaged from the sample fabric) but I like the shape and my waist is ickle in it. Most importantly, I can squeeze into it!

So I wasn't as excited as I'd have liked to have been, but it went a lot better than it might have! I'm sure I'll feel princessy on the day. :)

    Things we've sorted recently:

    • Rings commissioned, made and collected - OH needs his resizing, but our lovely jeweller has said we can just swap it for the next size down at no extra cost - very MSE :money:
    • Flowers sorted (with some adjustments - see the Bridezilla thread for my irrational initial reaction!) - I've conceded that the artificial flowers I'd planned on using as centrepieces aren't quite right for what we envisaged, so we're going to use them to decorate the ceremony room instead (which is great as we had no idea what to do in that regard) and my lovely mum is paying for us to have fresh flowers as our centrepieces. We've also ordered and paid for my bouquet, buttonholes for the men, and corsages for the women.
    • Photography sorted - we visited the venue with our photographers (as they hadn't seen the venue before) and had a really productive couple of hours working out what photos we wanted, how best to make us of the lighting, etc.
    • Wedding cake - being made by a family friend who is an excellent cake maker, as her wedding gift to us.
    • Itinerary of the day now sorted with the venue's co-ordinator
    • Invites sent out to day guests (and we've started getting replies - lovely!)
    Things left to sort:

    • What music I want to walk down the aisle to - still no idea! I thought briefly about "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence & the Machine, but looking into it, the lyrics seem a bit darker than I'd initially thought and maybe not very romantic after all :o so still trying to work this one out...
    • Confirmation of specific songs we want the DJ to play - we've already chosen our first dance song, so we just need to work out other particular faves that we really want to hear on the night.
    • Vases for our centrepieces - this will involve a trip to Ikea on Sunday :)
    • And OH is buying his suit at the end of May (as he's losing weight so doesn't want to buy it too soon).
    Getting there! :)

It's so exciting isn't it? I've tried mine on a few times now and I love it more every time :j I'm sure you look stunning in yours! :)

I was exactly like this too. My Dad is very poorly at the moment and the timing for trying it on to be taken up wasn't great. I think the seamstress must have thought I was a right miserable cow :rotfl:

Cant remember if i already mentioned it but I was looking at Oasis, Wonderwall for mine as he once put certain lyrics onto my fb, but, it won't exactly go with the princessy look!!!

Meant to be going to pick up my ring tomorrow and hopefully will manage to get a final choice for him, he's fussy!

I also somehow have ended up with three bridesmaids....our two witnesses and my friend that is flying out are on about getting the same dresses and getting ready with me, I only need one person to help me into my dress!!! Kinda feels like I'm losing control a little :(

I don't think just because they're getting ready with you makes them bridesmaids? Have you asked them to be? I'd just let them get on with it - seems odd they'd want to all be in the same dress......

I need one person to do my buttons on my back that's it too. Our witness last week was saying how she can't wait for the champagne in the room etc, I thought nothing of it until realised she ment MY room :rotfl:

I just said no one sees me ready other than bridesmaid so she'll have to get ready somewhere else.

    6 WEEKS TODAY

Herself has decided on Saddle The Pony, its an Irish traditional whistle tune, but hardly the most romantic title.

We must have a different definition of romantic :)

I'd rather have something that was personally special, than something that wasn't. Good luck choosing.

Meant to be going to pick up my ring tomorrow and hopefully will manage to get a final choice for him, he's fussy!
I'm getting nervous, I was expecting to pick our rings up last week, but they aren't quite finished - problem being that they then have to be drilled and then go off to be engraved, will be happier when they are back from all that.
I also somehow have ended up with three bridesmaids....our two witnesses and my friend that is flying out are on about getting the same dresses and getting ready with me, I only need one person to help me into my dress!!! Kinda feels like I'm losing control a little :(

Time for a Bridezilla moment? Or take a leaf out of Jax's book and insist no one is seeing you (apart from your choice) until the wedding.

Why does 53 days seem such a long time away and nowhere short enough :)
