Wonder if any of you can help me with a dilemma?
My neighbour (the flatmate of my schoolfriend) has just text to say that she is looking to move elsewhere in July and would I want to houseshare with her as my schoolfriend is moving in with her OH?
Pros - I'd save about £300 a month by sharing rent and bills:), i think my landlord will want to put up the rent when i renew (aug). she is a nice person and makes lovely cakes.
Cons - I don't know her that well (but this could be better than livign with someone I do know well?). I love living on my own though sometimes I would love the company, I think she wants to move away from this complex so no flat by the sea
Obviously I can take the time to make my mind up but just wondered if anyone had any input.

Flutterby....have never lived alone or house shared but if you like living alone maybe you should stay like that.....how difficult would it be to move on from sharing if it didn't work? You don't need the lovely cakes!
Have a good think about it anyway....£300 is a lot of money but......

Need some advice too guys...
So, due to my bad credit getting a mortgage is out of the question for about 7 years!! not the end of the world and to be fair it will probably take that long to save for a deposit anyway, so, the house we have no is cheap, v. cheap but not great at all, the only plus is location and it's cheap. As we can't buy for what feels like forever, i've been toying with the idea of moving somewhere a bit more expensive - not beyond our means maybe an extra £150/£200 a month just so we can spend the next seven years somewhere nice, with a nice bathroom/kitchen etc etc. Right now we go out alot because we just don't like the house and it's not homely. I should be getting some money from my dad later in the year, and am thinking of scrapping my plan to use it to pay off some debts, to pay for 6 months rent up front on a nicer property, then spend 6 months clearing the debts and getting some savings instead of paying rent, therefore giving us a cushion of money and also extra money toward rent from not making debt repayments every month.
Does this make sense? is it sensible? Or can someone point out flaws in my plan/if they can think of anything better. I think we really need to move to be honest, we can afford this place but we don't love it, and don't like to have people round so spend more money going out when our old house that we loved we'd do the entertaining there and be better off for it.

Flutterby, I've no idea! BUT, you could move in & save the £300pm & then if it all goes pete tong then you would havce a deposit to move on...
Bramble, if you can afford somewhere nicer then go for it. Or else save what you'd be paying on extra rent towards your debts/house fund. Depends what your current house is like & if your current landlord would make any changes, like update kitchen & bathroom if they're in a bad condition.
Kids were playing a game & then fought, so I had to intervene & have sent them to bed.
I've got a headache.
Made crispie cakes & scones today.

MrsM - Thanks for that, - problem with the house is that it needs gutting and starting over, this kitchen is okay, but we live over an office and the guy works 7 days a week which makes me feel like i can't make any noise ever, the living room is upstairs which it's a HUGE issue as we can't get a decent sofa up the narrow stairs and into the room! and it just doesn't feel like home at all. We've signed into another year, so have till april to make up my mind. - i think it's made up, but i will try and spent the next 6 months sticking what we'd pay in extra rent into a savings account to see if it's feasable.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Awww bless you all, maybe worth hanging on till you hear what the vet says tomorrow before telling the kids, I am hoping a miracle hapens overnight xx
Mum and dad have been tonight to see her. She reacted to them stroking her but she is incapable of standing. She's still not well enough to stand and still no sight. Problem is she cant see, in unfamiliar surroundings so hardly conducive to recovery IMO. My parents have to decide whether they want to continue putting her through this. It's so hard to know what to do for the best. Would love a miracle....
Flutterby personally I'd stay put but then I like your flat by the sea. Do you really need the company or do you just like it as and when. I suppose having had my own place I wouldn't want to go back to lack of privacy, own space etc. Sorry prob no help to you whatsoever
Bramble would you say you spend more money being out of the house all the time. Would the increase in rent be offset by a reduction in outgoings from being out of the house?I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Bitsy - yes, it really would, right now we spend far to much going out and it's purely because we don't like to have people round at this house. But going back to our first house, we rarely went out because everyone came round to ours. So we will easily save the extra by not feeling the need to go out so much. Alot of it is based on my dad pulling through and giving me the money, as I feel we'd need to be able to offer the 6 months upfront to get somewhere decent.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

If you can afford it then I would go for it bramble. At least you can make MSE chains to money spent at home but not so easy to do that for going out all the timeI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
