I just saw your post and I am so sorry about the latest news on the cat.

Is there any chance this is a "worst option" and that the reality is less bad?

Fingers crossed for you ( and the cat).

I need some help with my notice letter:o I want to post it tomorrow. Can I put in it that I want my 4 week notice to start on Mon 30th May or does my notice period automatically start on the day they receive the letter? Trouble is I dont know when they will receive it? Or is my 4 week notice commenced on the date I wrote the letter?
Should I just date it tomorrow and then tell them my leaving date ( 4 weeks after that)

I would be tempted to put something like.......

'..........tender resignation with effect from Monday 30th May 2011. My notice period is 4 weeks therefore my last working day will be <whatever that date is>.'

Yep. Me too :( I know she's my mum and dad's cat but we always had a cuddle when we went round and I was the one who took my mum to my brothers nick to pick her up where she'd been hanging around for 3 days. They've only had her about 6 months and she's just too young :(:(

I am sure that someone who works in HR somewhere on the board will correct me but I am pretty sure that your notice will commence from the date of the letter so as an example

    Dear........

I hereby tender my notice as from the date of this letter and will be leaving your employ on ..........

You can tell your company you want your notice period to start on a particular day, (wording as posted by others.) But they can decide to start from the day of your letter so be prepared.

  • thanks everyone.
i have dated letter with tomorrows date as thats is when I am sending it. I have told them I want notice to begin on the day they receive the letter and tht should be Weds as am sending it recorded special delivery.
However if they decide to start it on the day of the letter date thats fine by me:D
Just wanted to get it clarified as you know what the NHS are like for red tape;)
