  • Well, sleepover turned into, literally, a SLEEPover, when we both nodded off on the sofa at 9pm :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Had a nice lie in this morning too. Off to the hospital in half an hour, and must send Mr Daffs for the car!

Working at home today, so will get up into the attic with the windows open :T :T :T

    YAY

    Hope all goes well x

    Thanks folks :D

Car came back with a replaced windscreen washer pump 'and a few other little things we noticed and did since we know you're going away' - er, wasn't that what I asked you to do last week?! Also said they'd check oil and tyres for free before we went away if we liked - er, again, shouldn't that have been done at the service?! (I think it was, but this was for the future - or at least I hope so!) Anyway, £35, and I've just remembered the insurance is up in 2 days so I'd best get on the case with that too - yawn. Bl**dy car! Mr Daffs was looking at electric scooters today, I was very tempted to trade car in for a couple of those :p (mind you, it would probably take us about a week and a half to get to Scotland on them! :rotfl: :rotfl:)

Hospital visit was ok... Bit weird and rather like an interview panel, with surgeon, endocrinologist (different one to who I usually see) and work experience woman too, all sat behind a desk in a row :rotfl: I did tell them I felt like I was being interviewed! Rather intimidating for some folk I'd have thought! Anyway, gave me more info, and I had to make definite decision - I've gone for the surgery, hope it's the right choice :o They take all of your thyroid out here (in some places they only do part of it), so I'll *definitely* be underactive (or, I suppose, not active at all :rotfl:) and have to take thyroxine forever. Rather a daunting prospect, but I know lots of people who manage it well.

On the plus side, if I don't take the tablets I die, so apparently all my prescriptions are free forever :money: Well, until the government decides it wants to review the list of free prescriptions, I suppose....

Just had another flute lesson - excellent fun, so much fun I walked off without paying, and the woman didn't even notice :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: All sorted now though :D Actually excited about playing at the minute, which is quite lovely really :T :T :T

Nicely pottering weekend planned :T :T 5k run in the morning - not run at all this week so not anticipating another PB :p but will be good anyway. Then breakfast in cheery cafe with some friends (or WI if we can't persuade them out of bed...). Will try to sort out sand and gravel and maybe even lay my pavings in the garden :T :T :T I won't have the door fitted this weekend, or possibly even before we go away sadly, but hopefully I'll be able to sit out there nevertheless :T :T :T :T :T

Also planning on crossing a few other things off the list :j :j and having a good think about stuff.

Oh, and I need to sort out the car insurance. Had quote from existing one for £196 (down from £225 last year :money:) but since my points are now over 5 years ago, and my accident :o I want to go through the comparison thing again cos I reckon we can get better than that. Might even go fully comp for the first time (and then write off the damn car :p (only joking!))

Money wise... I've gone over my permitted food/fun spends this week already and we're not even at the weekend yet!!  Not by much, but still! A quick look in the book and a bit of rough adding up tells me...

£22 ish on proper food shopping (nearly £5 of this was slimming world cereal bars - might have to stop that!)
    £5.50 swimming lesson
    £1.50 buses
£10 on tea and cake (twice) and top up food cos ended up staying out later than expected and was proper hungry (just yogurt/banana, not whole curries or anything!)
£1.50 chocolate for friend at work
£2.95 on flute scale book (which could theoretically come from patchwork personal development fund)
£2 half a bottle of ginger wine :p

So nothing *hugely* extravagant I don't think! But clearly more than I'm budgeting for... Not sure what the answer is - at the minute I lump everything like tea and cake, nights out, swimming lessons, dance classes etc in one big pot, but I'm not sure that works because then if I've overspent on tea and cake I just don't go dancing, and in the long run I don't think that helps! Maybe need a separate 'organised activities' pot?! Or an 'exercise/healthy living' pot to pay for dancing/yoga or whatever, then a separate tea and cake pot?! No idea.

What do you think?? Am I being particularly extravagant?! Or do I need to perhaps squeeze some of my other pots a little tighter?! At the minute I put:

    £70 holiday fund
    £400 patchwork fund
    £100 emergency fund
    £40 car maintenance fund

every month (plus some into other bits and pieces) - am I being a little overenthusiastic on the savings front and making everyday life too tight??

or do I need to just stop moaning?? :p (quite likely! :rotfl:)

    Maybe I'll work out percentages....

It's so hard isn't it! I have just done a major overhaul of my 'yearly' savings as I'd forgotten some important stuff like birthdays :o

I hope one day I get it right - until then small adjustments! Don't forget it's impossible to budget 100% as your mood changes and unexpected things happen; therefore if you only get it a bit wrong don't worry! :)

I think it's called 'having a life' Cheery :rotfl: (I read about such a thing somewhere :o).

Cut yourself some slack and enjoy having the money to indulge a little - you've worked hard for years :j

Yep, I've not allocated anything for presents either! :o A couple fo years ago I MADE them all, but now I've just not got the same amount of time - I *could* do it, but it would require an awful lot more planning and energy than I've got for that right now. So yep, a bit more of an overhaul required I think!

You're putting by just over £600 a month, Cheery! Some of that is to be spent short term, like the car maintenance fund, but still - yes, I think the vote on here is cut yourself some slack :)

Scary to read about you going for the op and needing thyroxine for the rest of your life .... it must take the guesswork and the mood swings out of the equation .... when will it happen, do you think?

Your money planning is looking good, and the making of presents, although lovely, is something that requires a lot of time and planning. Hence I am doing mine now! In August, when I've got the time, rather than rushing to do it all in winter, when all I want to do is curl up with a book!

Thanks for the vote towards slackness :D :T :T Thinking of instgating distinct 'tea and cake' as well as 'wholesome activities' funds :D Then have a mini 'frittering on nowt' fund
