Right, apparently we ARE going to the dales - although I'm now questionning the wisdom of this.
Getting picked up in 45 mins  Best sack off work and figure out where the tent is then.0 -
Lol yes find the tent, slightly important! Have fun!
I feel sure something will come up re garden and ceiling, some sort of cash in hand odd job man or something?!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
If you can't do the plastering could you hide the plasterboard with some sort of canopy or tenting in the meantime?
Laughed at this: Two fellas in the hardware shop are used to my bizarre requests for random things, and very helpful My local handyman gets used to me ringing and trying to explain what has gone wrong in the house and trying to describe things. He knows the house fairly well and can normally workout what my broken/poorly thingumebob is :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: He is obviously very good at interpretation
Enjoy the Dales, glad you got to go :T But pah to the car:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Well, here we are back home again :rotfl: :rotfl:
All piled into friends' car, drove for an hour and a half up the M1 - and then there was a loud bang, lots of smoke, an RAC van, a short episode of being towed, a cuppa in McDonalds...
... and a trip all the way back to Sheffield in a giant truck carrying friends' car which has a blown head gasket :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I'm thinking the universe has other plans for us this weekend... :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Not quite what you planned but an adventure
Someone, somewhere wants you in Sheffield this weekend. Excited to see what they have planned for you!!!!!:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
being woken up at 8.30 by the everlasting builders drilling would appear to be the first thing they had planned Maty! :rotfl: :rotfl: (maybe I could slip them a tenner and see if they'd build me a wall while the other folk weren't looking?!
)
Woke up in a foul temper anyway (probably cos of the drilling!) - but this is the kind of foul temper that gets-things-done-because-nobody-else-is-going-to-bl**dy-do-them - so my garden wall may just get built today out of sheer temper - you never know - I can be quite strong when I'm mad! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
(trying to calm down a bit by the time Mr Daffs gets up though :rotfl: :rotfl:)0 -
Gosh! Hope you can channel that temper! Mr Daffs is a good sleeper then!!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0
-
Beta blockers have kicked in now and I've got a cuppa so it's safe for him to get up
(actually he's an appalling sleeper, I'm much better, but evidently he's just gone back to sleep again after the drilling stopped - usually it's the ohter way round!)
Still, nearly time for the WI now0 -
Sorry to read about your aborted trip. Bound to rain, anyway.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Oh deary me Cheery. I am so sorry but your posts have really made me laugh (not at you but with you). The way you write about all these disasters in such a cheery way belies your additional information that you are in a foul temper. Have you ever thought about sketch writing? I am imagining a tv comedy along the lines of the Good Life meets One Foot in the Grave. So funny.
Sorry that you missed your weekend away. With regards to the garden. Can your transitions group help out for a donation towards setting up a community garden? It might work out a lot cheaper and you can work with them (all the help you can get) whilst using your hard earned cash to put towards setting up a community garden somewhere as payment. Just a thought.
I wouldnt attempt the ceiling but what I would say is that in my last house I had several quotes for replastering my hall stairs and landing. I chose the middle quote but the man kept putting me off. In the end he owned up that he had overpriced the job in the hope that I didnt ask him to do it as he hated stairs and landings. (I told him that he should have just said that instead of wasting all of our time). He said that this is normal if somebody doesnt want to do a job rather than turning it down. Mad if you ask me but I am wondering if that is what is going on there because I reckon that is a stupidly high amount.
Enjoy the WI.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0
