Oh good grief, just *what* is happening to December?! Whizzing by as usual - is it really a twelfth of the year like the other months?! I don't think so! Pah! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Ok.... quick report on this week! (just realised it's only Wednesday, for some reason I was thinking it was Friday - all over the place here! :rotfl:)
So - Christmas shopping finished on Sunday! :T :T :T Excellent stuff - and nicely finished off at a local craft fair :T :T Must add it up, but think I've spent about £150 on everyone other than Mr Daffs (he's getting a few bits and a new hat, which could prove rather expensive, but since he hasn't chosen it yet, he won't be getting it til January).. Anyway, £150, and I buy for about 12 family people (including 4 kids), plus assorted little bits for a few friends and their children, so not too bad I don't think...
So Sunday spent on me
£3 flapjack (to share)
£1 butterscotch cup cake (not to share, but it was *very* small :rotfl: :rotfl:)
£1.80 bus fares (well worth it to make sure I didn't walk about 9 miles as well as all that shopping!)
Er, think that was it :T :T :T
Monday I went food shopping and spent about £24 - eek after all that other stuff, but we're still only up to about £140 since 26th Nov and won't need anything else this week. Will need to go before Christmas, but it'll be another £25 job, rather than enormous.
Yesterday I was in work, and it was our Christmas party :T Booked myself into a hostel for £10 so I didn't have to get the train home, but with one thing and another, ended up coming home anyway, so that was £10 wasted, another £12 that needs spending on train fare tomorrow that I wouldn't have had to spend, pah! And I paid £6.60 for drinks (got pulled in by stupid 2 for £5 cocktail offer and entirely forgot that I blatantly wasn't going to drink 2 white russians while eating Christmas dinner :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:) Good night though, even if it did take me over 2 hours to get home.
Worked at home today rather than heading back to the office (missing free hostel breakfast in the process - pah! :rotfl:). On the upside, I've spent nothing, so officially my first December NSD :money: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Tonight we put up the Christmas decorations :T :T Well, got them out of the cellar - minus the Christmas tree (we had our annual discussion about whether we'd finally got rid of it, because Mr Daffs couldn't see it in the cellar, but neither of us remember throwing it out...). My suggestion that we *might* have a few too many of those strings of beady things was met with disdain and a conversation that went something like this:
"you can never have too many! We just need to find something else to do with them! Here's a staple gun, why not make a bead curtain for the living room? Bye, I'm off out now!" :rotfl :rotfl:
Consequently, 2 hours later, the only 'decorations' is a rather non-Christmassy bead curtain :rotfl: :rotfl: Looks pretty fab though consideringNot entirely convinced how robust it is - going through it rather gingerly at the minute :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
You know, this is the first year I actually feel prepared! :T :T Kind of necessary, I'm going to my family on Saturday, and have been at work all week, so HAD to finish shopping last weekend. Then I'm working all week, then it's Christmas eve! Christmas day, boxing day, Mr Daffs' family for a day, then I'm in hospital for a couple of days, then it's new year and 2011 is all over!
I'm worn out just thinking about it :rotfl: :rotfl:
I'm thinking a bit of a Christmassy film if I can find one and some present wrapping0 -
Hi there Cheery
Hope this years xmas 'do' went a bit smoother than last year
Good to hear you are all organised and Christmas-y :xmassmile good idea about watching a film. I'm all sorted for xmas too (except for the food shopping to be done nearer to the day itself) - but not feeling very festive at the mo. so may pinch your idea of watching some xmas films to get me in the festive spirit

Well have done 3/16 jobs for xmas :rotfl:- have had to write myself a rota!!
Very impressed that you found time to make a new decoration as well!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Excellent preparations. Loving the bead curtain instructions and then disappearing. Why is it that men get it so right at Christmas..... they leave everything to the last minute, flounce around and still have a fab Christmas with no stress..... think we women need to learn a thing or to there.
Erm.... hostel not attended. Wont ask.
Christmas films........ Miracle on 34th Street, Its a Wonderful Life, Jack Frost, can all be recommended by me. Hope you find the right one for you.
Oh and that is a fantastic budget for 12 people by the way. Well done. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Thanks folks
No mystery with the hostel Mrs Moo, just wanted to come home nd see Mr Daffs (and the room was really hot and the beds really rickety, so I got the last train home)
Just went to stick Santa Claus the Movie on, and realised there's no DVD player! :rotfl: :rotfl: Where on earth is it??? And why on earth isn't it plugged into the tv??? That man of mine does have some bizarre whims sometimes :rotfl: :rotfl: Sadly he's not here, so I shall be watching it on the laptop! Daft bloke. No doubt there's some completely ludicrous explanation :rotfl: :rotfl:
Another NSD here :A Just paid £1 for bus fares, which doesn't countLunch at work was still in the fridge from Tuesday so I ate that, and someone had cherry bakewells, so that was anice afternoon treat :rotfl: Managed to avoid going to the craft market/cake sale too :T
On the less positive side, something told me to check the bank yesterday - £8 overdrawn!    See, bank accounts can't help but misbehave when you don't keep a close eye on them :rotfl: (andI've paid for diesel etc that I've not transferred over from the other account, and have probably gone a bit overboard with all that hostel messing about and Christmas presents!). Oh dear. Anyway, have transferred £200 over from the other account, and will make sure I don't spend too much more now.... Paid on 31st...
On the plus side, I've only got 2 more trips to York this yearAnd will only have a couple in late Jan, so should save a bit there. And all presents are bought, apart from 3 that I'll spend about £10 in total on tomorrow. And we've still got quite a lot of food :rotfl: :rotfl: although we'll need a few Christmassy bits, but don't tend to go mad, just a bit of veg, maybe some quorn sausages as a treat
:rotfl: :rotfl:
Right, those presents aren't going to wrap themselves!0 -
Ah....... I have been in a few hostels like that. Good that you could decide to head home rather than having to stay. Dont beat yourself up about the overdraught. You caught it in plenty of time before it caused a problem so thats ok. I only ever watch DVDs on the laptop these days. Although I did just realise the other night that I can hook up my works projector and speakers and watch it that way. Work equipment does come in handy. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. We did rather enjoy watching films on Pippi's whole wall projector Mrs Moo!
Sadly don't have a wall free here to do that! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Film watched, family presents wrapped, and I know the couple of tiny bits I need to get tomorrow :T Other pressies not wrapped, but they can wait til after the weekend. Getting there! :T :T0 -
You *are* getting there, thats great.
A wall projector? I think I might *make* a wall free, if I could watch on a projector. I have a tiny old analogue tv hooked up to my freeview signal booster, when I get the endowment money next September I'm going to splash-out-for-me on a new tv.
I love Its A Wonderful Life. Love Harvey too, though its not particularly christmassy. Maybe it is :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
No not christmassy but as its a favourite I watch it anytime. Jan, you can hook up a projector to the laptop and watch iplayer too. Much cheaper than buying a tv.
So organised Cheery..... I havent even bought a single present yet! Its shopping day later today. Going to the Arts Centre and buying crafty bits. Resisting splashing out on an Ipad at the moment. I feel the need to indulge. Bad, very bad. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Ooh .... could I do that (lappie plus projector) for a DVD too? Or even from a small tv, to get a larger picture? It would suit me to project onto different walls at different times, thinking of it ... my web connection often dies in the evening, its rubbish round here - I can see more research coming on!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
