Oh Cheery! You make me laugh!!!
I was in the same position with lunches a few weeks ago and it was making me really poorly. I started giving the kids hot school dinners because I was so disorganised but then just completely failed to feed myself! I also really struggle because when I come in from a long day at work and still have clubs to get the kids out to I really, really don't want to cook and clean as well. I haven't got it perfect yet but these things have helped:- making big one pot dinners like chilli - that way I can either divvy up into lunches or freeze for another day.
- prepping tomorrow's dinner on my at home days so that I can just cook and go when I get home.
- cooking 2 meals at once - if I'm in the kitchen cooking one I may as well cook two.
- the odd carton of soup, reduced price ready meal or on offer veg pot keeps me stocked up and doesn't do anyone any harm
- I always have a big of carrots because it is the last fresh fruit and veg I run out of and I can feed them to the kids and guinea pigs endlessly!
- buying milk in 6 pint cartons (I don't know why this makes such a difference but it does!)
- buy a loaf, freeze a loaf.

Oooh, thanks Ruby! :T :T Will read that again when I'm awake enough to take it in and act on it :rotfl: :rotfl:
:rotfl: at you lot
Bought lunch at work today£2.70 for a sandwich! although it was a very nice onion bhaji sandwich
And it wasn't just a sandwich either...
Anyway, noticed I had some oatcakes in the drawer in the office, so I've now picked up a couple of bags of salad, and a bag of sprouted bean things - both things I usually avoid buying, salad because it's expensive, and beans because I always think 'I could sprout them myself for pretty much nothing!' (and then often don't...). Anyway, altogether that cost me less than one sandwich, and together with a bit of cottage cheese (which I already had), it'll last several days! Silly girl...0 -
I am always promising to sprout beans but I have no clue where to start. I agree Salad is expensive..... I like it but wont buy it out of principle that I could grow it cheaper (groans......... so why dont I?).
Yum oatcakes. They are lovely with avocado too. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
I've given up buying avocadoes - I have no sense of when to buy or when to eat, and whenever I open them there's always huge amounts of black no matter what I do - so nowadays I have organic avocado oil, and tipple it over stuff - at least I get avocado-shaped micronutrients2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Ooh I love avocados! On toast, with grated cheese
Well, I enjoyed my lunch SO MUCH today, I've learned my lesson. Probably half a bag of salad (it was reduced so whole bag was 70p), a bit of reduced cottage cheese (55p for whole tub but it was huge and I just had a bit), some leftover pasta a friend brought round last night, and probably a quarter of my (£1) bag of sprouted beans. Oh, and some of Mr Daffs' scones that he made ysterday
Considering I spent nearly £5 the day before on sandwich, yogurt and chocolate, I reckon I can stretch to a bag of salad and some beans now and again.
Lesson learned - and no more beating myself up because I 'should' have grown them myself! I will when I get round to it, and that's not right now
What is right now is a bath. Just got in after my second 13 hour day <yawn> Back out the door again at 7 tomorrow for another one - and we've got our (bit scary) meeting/workshop/event thing at work tomorrow which I'm presenting at - wibble!0 -
Good luck Cheery!!!
Boo to long days! I've done overtime every day this week and I don't even work on Mondays! Should fess up though - stayed behind today so that I could go to garden centre and plant up garden for open day tomorrow - not exactly a hardship!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73

I can't complain really - my actual day in the office yesterday was 9.20 - 4.45 :rotfl: Today I managed a more respectable 9.20 - 5.45Trouble is that involves being out of the house from 7am-8pm...

Oh Cheery I sympathise. Make the most of working at home days as often as you can. I know that you dont drive but would the journey be quicker or shorter if you did? Could you drive one day a week if it was shorter. Mind I much prefer a longer journey on a train because I can get other things done and feel relaxed. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. It's not that bad really Mrs Moo
I usually only do 2 days a week - just we've got an event this week, and 3 days in a row feels a bit much while I'm still getting over a cold!
Could drive - would still be an hour and a half each way though - no motorways, all windy roads, no exercise (from walking to/from the station), can't read/work/snooze in the car, and at the minute it's only £12 on the train, plus a max of £2 on the bus, and I'm not sure I'd be able to drive 120 miles on £12... And I have no interest in spending 3 hours a day in the car! And we share it, so that would mean Mr Daffs didn't have it, and I'd have to pay to park at work. And environmentally I generally prefer the train if I can. And I'm never entirely convinced the car is reliable enough to get me anywhere I *need* to be without breaking downAll in all, better on the train I say!
(just need to stop moaning about it)
