    I suspect you need a one-man-band type jobbing gardener/handyman sort of person. where you find such a thing though I would have NO idea!

    I've got a mate who's a kind of handyman type - he's coming to fit the new front door :D But he might know a similar gardener type... :D

    Not sure if this is right but found this: http://www.mybuilder.com/ ???!!!

    I used this site to get my floor laid in the flat. Found an excellent carpenter. Got in about 5 quotes - some so low it was obvious they were jobbers. Did a ring around the references and settled on one. He was great.

    Ahem............ LETS?

    Yep - that's exactly what Mr Daffs just said :D :rotfl:

    He also said we'd both spend Sunday morning working on it, then assess the situation and see what still needs to happen. Apparently he didn't realise how frustrated I was with the whole thing - seems I'm better at keeping my feelings to myself than I thought... :D

    Hi again,

    Didn't want to read and run though its definitely gotten past my bedtime writing up MS reports and wotnot. Thanks for your understanding re. thyroid Cheery :D

    Erm, no idea if this is how it works :o is there not a qualified / skilled person in your LETS scheme that could help with the garden or wall or both? It'd be nice to keep your palace fund as in tact as possible and only for the necessary things that you *will* need to buy. And I agree that the garden may turn out to be one of those necessary spends and i totally agree with you on the cost of making it how you want and the years of pleasure and use you'll have out of it afterwards - so if you do have to pay someone its a definite positive investment. Anywho's was just a thought :o

    Righto, finally off to bed now with the alarm set for some very early hour *eep* :eek:

    If you need someone to do the work, ask round your neighbours. Someone will know someone who does that sort of thing. I do think you have to accept that some things are better got out of the way, even if you have to pay for it. Then you can do the bits you enjoy like planting and sitting.:rotfl:

    My DH is not much into DIY and I get worked up when jobs are half done so it makes for more harmony if I just get it done. :T
    But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

    For thyroid stuff my yoga teacher recommends poses that open up the chest/heart/throat area ... er like sphinx or cobra (or a combination of downward do or upward dog) ... I'm sure they will be on YouTube if you feel like having a go.

    Garden: Can you write a list of what you think needs doing - e.g. do you want a wall building - in the breezeblock or with those metal basket things that you can throw stone into (and therefore plant in the top of them). From what you have said a groundworks person may be the place to start (look for patios, fences, drainage, foundations, walls etc.). They will no nowt about plants, but will assess the building work. Er, is there a local college ... I was thinking agricultural but maybe the Eco centre at Wirksworth (they do stone walling classes) ... if you could get a responsible student and mates they could have the 'little project' done in no time

    (These are ideas straight out of my head without a sensibility filter :) and it is still early... re-lurking)

    Oooh, all good ideas, thank you! :T

    It's a retaining wall NL, so it'll need to be breeze blocks rather than metal basket things - needs to hold a big load of rubble/soil in and have the patio on the top.

    I will indeed write a list of jobs though - I'll do that today. Then after we both spend Sunday morning on it, I'll see how much there still is to do, and I might ask Mr Daffs to be getting on with some stuff in the week while I'm at work so it doesn't only have to progress at weekends :D (I suspect he may live to regret telling me to ask for help... :rotfl: might well find he preferred it when I kept my feelings to myself :D :rotfl:)

    And then I will investigate LETS. In fact, I'm helping them set up a stall at a local festival tomorrow morning, so will ask around then :T

    Work today, at home of course. Also want to do...

    * washing
    * change sheets
    * finish clearing out kitchen cupboard
    * ring docs
    * make appointment at dentist
    * ring friend about meeting her tomorrow
    * take some photos while it's sunny
    * write blog post
    * write list of things to do in garden (and to get front door opened - it's part of the same project)

    Er, think that's it! :T Have a good one all :D

    You're not strange... :) Our first thought is always to do things like that ourselves and only resort to professional help if we really can't manage (or it's something it would be dangerous to attempt!).. having said that we still have a bag of mortar lying around to sort out the garden wall :o Hope you manage to make some progress on Sunday :)

    For recommendations for such things.. we found a good plumber/ boiler person recommended on a certain local forum (which has its good points amongst a load of rubbish), and we found a joiner to sort out our living room door at one of the farmers markets - he was selling lovely handcrafted wooden furniture etc but also had a card for general work/ repairs on his stall. He was brilliant, and put us in touch with people he works with who do plastering etc. Don't think I know any garden wall builders though.... *thinks*
