£7.25 in the evening to watch a film at Showcase in Cardiff!
Surely that's reaching the tipping point where people are just going to start waiting for the DVD? You can pick them up for twelve quid a few months later and watch them as many times as you like!
How much is a film round your way?
Just something to ponder for a quiet Friday afternoon.

Yeah it's about £7 in Leeds. Which is why I always go on Orange Wednesday and take my own sweeties instead of paying ridiculous prices in the cinema!0

Already long past the tipping point for me. I only watch films on DVD now.0

Past the tipping point ages ago for us. We are now at the point where a new release is when the film comes out on DVD and is in the local library.
£1.80 for 3 nights for a "new" DVD. Senior Citizens' concessions are great! And money saving.

I agree, the prices are becoming prohibitive.
If you investigate the finances behind all of this, you will find that the cinema itself takes a very low percentage of the price - the distributor gets the lion's share.
That's why they charge so much for the soft drinks and sweets.
Someone described modern cinemas as confectionery shops that show films in their back rooms.0 -
Vue Finchley Road (NW london) £10.75 + £1 booking fee. And £9 car parking fee.
They can shove that right up their divx0 -
£8.20 in Ipswich Cineworld, but £10.20 if it's 3d. And they often only show the 3d versions of films.0

Yeah, too expensive for us (family of 5).
If there's a Kids film out, the we wait for it to be shown on a Saturday morning at Cineworlds 'Movies for Juniors', tickets are only £1plus we take our own drinks and snacks
. These are not shown in 3D, but well worth a £1.
If we want to watch a Kids film in 3D, the we wait for the Sky 3D Kids Club which usually shows films during the School Holidays at Cineworld, and costs something like £4 in total for 4 people to go.
If me and Mr Zippybungle go to the cinema alone (which is once in a blue moon) the we will only go if we have some cheap cinema tickets from the likes of Groupon etc, or we borrow a DVD from a friend.

its still a cheap night out, 30 quid total with drinks and popcorn, its something we really enjoy.
to be honest i'd go more often if they showed some of the classics again on the big screen0
