  • Oh how annoying, I went away for the weekend and the whole thread's gone, I thought it was hilarious!
  • I know...I was just nipping in to see if little Phil had cried himself to sleep without his Wii

    Slightly off topic
I ordered a wii and was told it would be delivered last Friday by Argos customer services. It didn't show, i am sure somone posted a wii cs helpline for Argos but can't find it.
Last time I telephoned the 0870 no I was on hold for 15 minutes just to be fobbed off.

By the way I have had to laugh at this thread as some of you are real mickey takers.
Though I am personally frustrated with Argos's lack of information and incompetence over this.

    Evening all!

I've been away for a bracing weekend with my kids.

Meanwhile Argos have continued to be heartless of course - despite their words on the telephone, not even the slightest acknowledgement of anything has occurred. I am afraid Argos can't be trusted to do the smallest things in the name of real courtesy.

They had the cheek to describe the call last Wednesday afternoon as courtesy call. I soon got them to correct that lie. There is nothing courteous about what Argos do. I accept that some of their retail staff are courteous, but I don't think Argos can claim the credit for that, do you?

I am actually quite browned off with Argos now - I still have had nothing in writing from them about why the order didn't arrive.

On Thursday, I agreed with a chap in Escalations Department of Home Retail Group plc (Argos) that he would send a written apology by letter or email. As I said last week, he seemed quite a nice chap. On Thursday evening he was going to make a personal apology authorised by the CRM manager by phone but that didn't happen. On Friday he agreed he could send an email instead. But actually, no email arrived, so it will be interesting to see if any letter does.

So, nice chap or not, nothing seems to have happened (apart from the previous thread being deleted of course, and this new one sprouting like a piece of Japanese knotweed!)

He told me Argos supplier for the Wii is Entertainment UK which is a business owned by Woolworths Group Plc. They are generally known in the business as E UK or E.UK. I sent a couple of emails to Caroline Maddox, their company secretary, asking them to comment and to help. I received no reply. She is probably a lawyer. Having worked for a largish Plc company secretary who was a lawyer, I can well imagine the level of attention this Caroline might apply to a complaint. Basically, I can guess she'll be of the "say nothing until you absolutely have to" variety (I once told my boss to stuff it and do the job himself the day I pointed out to him we owed a long-term complainant £25,000 because of a mistake we made and he said well tell him our best offer is £6,000 - he'll take it because he is completely tired out by the case). Who was right? Who was clever?

Do you mischievous types really believe that you are the clever ones?

You seem to be overlooking everything that is important. A missing Nintendo games console is not the point. My choice to tell you something about the customer they disappointed is not the point. Compensation is not the point, but if EU law as applies to airline overbooking were applied to these dishonest new product launch activities then the crooks in the retail game would soon get sacked for losing big money instead of a bonus for hustling big money from customers they tricked in thousands.
That's getting to the point - we don't like crooks, right? It ain't clever to make money out of tricking people, right?

The fact that Argos have told me that not only have they somehow discriminated against our order, but that they have indeed broken a total of 2500 contracts IS THE POINT. The fact that they remain pretty heartless by their response to my complaining is further evidence that they don't give a flying *^&% about keeping contracts with customers.

As you might have noticed from this thread, when I have time to keep the plates spinning myself, I post here. When I have something more pressing to do, I do that instead, and if other people spin the plates for whatever reason, I am hardly able to stop them.

I conclude that I must have struck some kind of cord which did enough to keep the headline which says "Official Nintendo Wii announcement: ARGOS ARE HEARTLESS CONTRACT BUSTERS!" at the top of a bulletin board frequented by Argos bargain hunters for the whole weekend - despite the fact I had the entire weekend off doing other things.

You recall that before I made the original post, I sought very explicit permission from Argos to publish the story to an audience of up to a million people. Can't get fairer than that, can you? The man was on the phone to me for best part of an hour on Wednesday. He went away twice to check with a manager when I asked if it was the last word from Argos, and if I could publish it. So I posted it.

For the mischief makers again, what did you make happen this weekend? Apart from bumping this thread?

For the rest of you (the less vociferous majority) did you receive good news in the post, or are big companies like Argos stuffing you too?

I checked my post this evening for a card or something from Argos, but nah...all I got was a letter from AVIVA in the guise of Norwich Union, or Commercial Union, or General Accident (who knows which one it might once have been because one company owns them all now and they are behaving like big companies run by lawyers and accountants do i.e. as atrociously as the next big company).

They wrote (out of the blue) to introduce a bribe for part of my pension fund with them. Why would I want to accept a bribe from an atrociously run big company to give them permission to take more money from you than they will give you as a bribe??

I already got offered a similar bribe by an atrociously run foreign-owned big company (AXA) a number of years ago for a very similar purpose. I told them to stick it where the sun dont shine also.

Goodness knows who owns AVIVA thesedays but the controlling interests are not content with winning your investment business and making a reasonable profit, oh no ... they covet our better performing funds and want them for themselves.

Driving home tonight I heard on Radio 4 that Abbey are stuffing their existing Cahoot flexible loan customers by smacking them with a credit card type rate of 15 point something percent. A few weeks ago they wrote to me to tell me they were closing my flexible loan account because it had a zero balance - well I guess I'm the lucky one right? Only people who really needed a loan are being stuffed ... that's all right then is it?? I only opened my loan account to get my free £50 like all good MSErs did a few years ago. I did end up on a Loans.co.uk mailing list as a direct result of it which was a pain - and never properly explained by Abbey. So someone got their fifty quid's worth from me anyway...

AVIVA, AXA, Argos, Abbey, Atrocious what's the difference? Answer, none - they are all Atrocious.

Everyday, everyday names are stuffing us, and everyday, mischief-makers who can't see further than the end of their nose just poo-poo the complaints the more enlightened of us make...well done team UK! You'll be freely applying the duck tape to your own mouths soon at this rate. Keep it up!

    Edit: Now then, what's this?:

Interesting statistics those ...So Aluminium, what really pulls your chain ? ... I can only think boys and girls that he or she is just hoping to be so outrageous as to get the Japaness knotweed pulled up by the roots again...can't think why, can we boys and girls?...go ahead...Japanese knotweed is darned awkward stuff once you've introduced it, and I think it's going to be rather fruitless you continuing to con us into thinking it's all rooted in innocuous, indiginous, reasonable stuff ... but you're welcome to try:-)
  • theyve got the money, so why should they care? Im awaiting a call or the actual console, i really dont know when ill get either

Well I am sure you meant the question rhetorically, but as we all know, the simple answer is that good citizens care about keeping promises and contracts, bad citizens don't. Argos don't seem to care, so what does that make them? Apart from bad citizens? HEARTLESS perhaps.

My son Timmy has no arms or legs, and has got a Wii from Argos. Should he give his up for yours with his video game-caused ADHD?

I recommend you sue Nintendo for not providing enough.

With a talent like that you could get a job in a Greek restaurant - talented plate spinners are much in demand.

    You're wasted here.

A cord? Or a rope with which you hung yourself?

I made the earth move. I think that's a very special talent. My wife agrees.
For the rest of you (the less vociferous majority) did you receive good news in the post, or are big companies like Argos stuffing you too?

I got news through from the Falklands. Apparently we won the war! Hurrah for Maggie!

I'd sue Argos for that as well. The b*stards obviously put them up to it.

Outrageous. Fancy them making you an offer that might be better than the one you had already! Have you contact your MP yet? Or is he still dealing with Argos.

What a rotter you are! You exploited that poor company! That £50 was going to go to their charity donation to help children with no arms and legs. But now thanks to you those children will be staying legless another year :(.
AVIVA, AXA, Argos, Abbey, Atrocious what's the difference? Answer, none - they are all Atrocious.

It must be something with companies beginning with 'A'! It's a global conspiracy, quite possibly led by a committee of freemasons.

I suspect the involvement of Big Bird from Sesame Street.

Avoid all companies beginning with A!!!!!

You clearly are the enlightened one. Let us all pay homage to 'peterbaker' -the UK's biggest peter.
As for Aluminium, who knows what pulls their chain ... I can only think he or she is just hoping to be so outrageous as to get the thread pulled again...can't think why, can we boys and girls?...go ahead...Japanese knotweed is darned awkward stuff, but you're welcome to try:-)

It's those Awful A's again! Aluminium - A!!!! The conspiracy is proven.

whambooboo - I thought I saw you off in the first thread! So what is it this week...Are you on the night shift?

BTW, A is only the start of the alphabet...and tomorrow is another day, already looking promising too! Goodnight!
