For those who are short on the story up to now, and shame on MSE for deleting one of the funniest threads I have ever seen:

PeterBaker is a pseudonym of a chap who admires Basil Fawlty and so has recreated his character.

Basily Fawlty is deeply outraged that a wonderful and intelligent foreign lad ('who is far better than you or I' quote) has been bilked out of his promised Wii by an unforgiving, cold, callous hearted Argos. He preordered on November 20th (I kid you not) and thought he was going to get on, because a shop assistant rang Argos Direct and told him he should get one.

He feels that it is only fair that Argos refuse to supply another customer who has preordered their Wii in plenty of time (ie not Nov 20th) so that said foreign 13 yr old genius (with attention deficit disorder, made worse of course by computer games) can have it. Either that or Argos should cough up £200 compensation to said foreign lad.

Basil asked the Argos call centre over the phone whether their refusal to supply one was the final word of the Argos Board of Directors. Basil also asked the said callcentre operative whether Argos would mind him publicising that fact. Argos call centre operative said yes, that was the final word on his lack of Wii, and also fine to go ahead and publicise the fact he wasn't getting one.

Basil thought that publicising this terrible heart rending story on the MSE board would attract 1000s of people willing to call Argos or email Argos or otherwise embarass Argos about young foreign lad's lack of Wiiness and as a result, Argos would find that they would be able to let the chap have a wii and not have to hold it in until re-stocks arrive.

Basil enjoys tilting at windmills and can't understand why other posters are telling him that they don't feel he has a good reason to have a Wii before anyone else in the queue or get £200 compensation, or why other people can't see that his perspective is utterly normal, or why, indeed, that they are finding Basil's posts so amusing.

    Now read on...

Edited to point out that my Wii arrived today :-)

I could have bought twenty Wiis today, so many places had stock.

I hope you didn't get one, Peter Parker.
As a PowerSeller, I never leave feedback first. The reason I do this is because I know how much it winds the people on the forums up...

That's good news, I hope lots of people were happy customers today, a friend of mine got one from Tesco's without a preorder, congratulations to him  . I hope Phillip's not been crying again  In fact, I hope Phillip's been distracted by something shiny. Like cooking foil or something or anything really that could take his mind of it :spam:. Couldn't something else pacify his tears? :T A remote control for a Grundig Tv and some dvd cases taped together with "Wii" crudely scrawled on them (perhaps with something additional in English to help with his schooling) could do the trick. You could get a video of Wii game footage and play it when he picks up the remote. I doubt he'll pay attention long enough to cotton on. You could get a refund and send him on a shopping trip. Perhaps in Portugal since he likes to fly when he goes to the shops. You could report on any bargains you find. :money: Or you could just use the video / remote / dvd cases for a bit and get one when they're available, I reckon it won't be that long before stock becomes more plentifull. :easter:

Incidentally, why are Argos Heartless? It'd make sense to break down what you're calling them, Peter  . Contract Busters? Well, we've sort of covered that, the conclusion being that the whole world thinks they're acting reasonably.:T

Heartless though, that bit I don't get.

    EDIT:

    EDIT: :happylove:

EDIT3: Forgot to say. I think it's of utmost importance that we maintain concentration on keeping this topic on track. This is a serious and important subject. Chin up Phillip, you poor, fictional little crybaby from mainland europe with no understanding of how the world works and not a bad thought in your head. Damn those "Heartless" "Contract Busters"
