So far they refused a scan at EPU when I had bleeding. they refused to rescan to get the nuchal measurement and the risks of Downs are quite high as I miscarried a Downs baby years ago. They are doing the 20 week anomaly scan at 22 weeks and the dating scan the sonographer ripped my stomach muscles causing a hole 3 inches long in the abdominal muscles and a huge very very sore hernia.
I don't trust them to look after my cat!
I have antibodies which may or may not affect the baby. I have recurrent kidney infecion which cause my kidneys to shut down, they did stop workin pretty much entirely in the weeks before the baby arrived. My liver was affected by thetoxins from the kidneys so that needs watchin. I get severe anaemia and can't tolerate iron in any form (I ended up with a bowel obstruction) I get SPD.. and they have not done the physio referral my GP requested. I also have no peritoneum, a damaged bowel and the chances of me reaching full term are practically zero... This is not safe for me or the baby.. but we will be fine..
Pigpen I am astonished by this ^^. Would you consider talking to http://www.aims.org.uk/ - the Association for Improvements in Maternity Services? Your 'treatment' is outrageous.
Shorter term can you go direct to your midwife with your concerns re: Downs/ SPD/Antibodies? (If you get their name and registration number before you explain the situation you can remind them of their duty) They do have a duty of care to a pregnant woman who calls them...
You seem to be very positive in the circumstances :T
xThey call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
The second consent it by no means automatic. The consultant can refuse. I have seen requests refused, often more than once. Many patients will try again through a different GP. Where there has already been a previous abortion there is a greater chance of the request being refused, particuarly for working adults in a relationship and no direct risk to health
That why I said usually. Its rare for a consultant to not grant permission even if they don't think the lady in question doing it for the right reason, the fact that a termination has been asked for speaks volumes.0 -

Erm because usually asking for a termination means you don't want to continue the pregnancy??????, who is going to force a woman to continue against her will?
Very few terminations are done for the exceptions laid down in the abortion act, if the NHS says no which is very rare throw a few hundred quid at Marie stopes.0 -
Usually doctors who have lost touch with the real world.0

pigpen, no offense but some of what you right doesn't sound right. Incidents do happen, but you seem to accumulate a long number of them and that is highly unlikely and more unlikely is that no one is responding to your concerns. For one, a GP cannot refuse to take on a new patient who lives within the pct area, unless they can evidence that their list is full. It is highly unlikely that an entire surgery would be full. Secondly, a GP would not write on a patient notes that they highly recommend that a patient doesn't go through an abortion unless there are VERY good reasons for it. It is hard to believe that then, all other 6 GPs within the practice would find it acceptable unless there were indeed good reasons. It is even harder to believe that the local PCT would investigate and not do anything about it if it indeed came to light that a patient was denied referral to an abortion or told how to do so alternatively. Obviously it is not for me to comment on your personal circumstances and choices, but i am guessing that there are a lot more behind your experience than what you are sharing here.
For the OP, your GP will give you a number to contact, most likely BPAS. To anyone else reading, many pcts will support patients contacting an abortion service directly without being referred from their GP, however, do make sure you know which service they commission as they will most likely only pay for the services of one, and could refuse reimbursement if the patient goes to another service.0 -

Good point. I'm pretty sure BPAS would always run a check on this for the patient, but I don't know about other services. Better to be on the safe side I agree.0 -
Pigpen, I would go straight to the GMC and report your GP. They are duty bound to investigate, and are the only ones who can put the fear of god into Dr's because they are the only ones that can strike them off.
From what you have said your GP would be brought before the fitness to practice commitee. All I want is an opportunity to prove that money doesn't buy happiness
