The second consent it by no means automatic. The consultant can refuse. I have seen requests refused, often more than once. Many patients will try again through a different GP. Where there has already been a previous abortion there is a greater chance of the request being refused, particuarly for working adults in a relationship and no direct risk to health
What if there was a history of PND and depression would that help do you think?Shut up woman get on my horse!!!0 -
It isn't that simple. I have 2 children on very expensive medication and no other surgery will take them on and apparently you have to move everybody not just one or 2.. I tried several times!
they wouldn't even let us register the baby at the surgery OH is at she had to be registered at my crappy one too!
Regardless of being stuck with the surgery due to your other children being on expensive medication, your gp should have given you the option of speaking to a colleague of hers. Its surely not proper professional conduct for her to blatantly refuse you an abortion if you request it. If it goes against her feelings and morals then she should have passed the enquiry to a colleague who could handle the situation appropriately.
My friends child is on expensive medication on prescription and they have moved surgeries several times due to general life relocation. They have never had a problem with the prescription being transferred once initial assessments were carried out at the new surgery.0 -

She wrote on my notes she advised againt it and that she didn't feel it was a sensible or safe option.. which is crazy after my last pregnancy.. so any other doc in the practice would likely refuse it too.
OH's surgery took the applications and when the managers looked at it they refused..
Doesn't matter now.. we will manage with a 14 month age gap and hope my kidneys and liver can cope so soon!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Can I ask pigpen, now that your gp surgery is basically making you continue with this pregnancy, are they ensuring you recieve the best possible ante-natal care? Reading between the lines it seems this pregnancy is not without risk to your health. I really hope you are being very well cared for.0

So far they refused a scan at EPU when I had bleeding. they refused to rescan to get the nuchal measurement and the risks of Downs are quite high as I miscarried a Downs baby years ago. They are doing the 20 week anomaly scan at 22 weeks and the dating scan the sonographer ripped my stomach muscles causing a hole 3 inches long in the abdominal muscles and a huge very very sore hernia.
I don't trust them to look after my cat!
I have antibodies which may or may not affect the baby. I have recurrent kidney infecion which cause my kidneys to shut down, they did stop workin pretty much entirely in the weeks before the baby arrived. My liver was affected by thetoxins from the kidneys so that needs watchin. I get severe anaemia and can't tolerate iron in any form (I ended up with a bowel obstruction) I get SPD.. and they have not done the physio referral my GP requested. I also have no peritoneum, a damaged bowel and the chances of me reaching full term are practically zero... This is not safe for me or the baby.. but we will be fine..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
When I had an abortion (a few weeks ago) I wanted it done asap so I found out the clinic to which my surgery would refer me and I contacted them directly. It was still through the NHS (free) they got me in the next day - the doctor there authorised it and they sent my notes to my GP after it was done. So if you know the clinic I say ring them direct as it will be done faster then. x0

Refusing to scan for Downs seems very serious to me. There's an organization called AVMA who might be able to advise you. They were enormously helpful to me, in the past, on a completely different matter.
