Olympic tickets

Because its a long journey to see just one event and was going to make the London experience our summer holiday next year. We applied for events to fill in the time around the events we really wanted to see, but only seem to have got the fill in events.Have spent hours planning out this holiday of a lifetime, looking at apartments and travel and carefully mapping out what we could see.Quote:
Why apply for tickets for events that you didn't really want to see? I'm a bit confused! :S.
I know I should be grateful we got something but can't help being disappointed as a planned holiday is not going to happen.0 -
Nothing for me or my daughter. So disappointed as she is the next generation who is really interested in sports and she thought she would get the opportunity to see it in our home town.
We have helped pay for it with our council tax, we will suffer the inconvenience of amended train timetables to accomodate trains for olympic visitors and we won't get any benefits.:mad:0 -
Nothing for me either out of £1500 worth

Do you think this is it, then? They did say "most" of the payments would be taken by Tuesday night. Have we still got a chance?
How depressing.0 -
Nothing at all for us.
Applied for £580 worth - Athletics, track cycling and tennis so popular events. If we'd got tickets it was going to be our main holiday next year.
Ah well, iPlayer it is!0 -

I have also paid for myself to go abroad to learn more about the event I coach.
I didnt want free tickets as a thank you - all I wanted was the opportunity to buy tickets at the normal price, in front of the corporates who buy tickets for their customers who then spend the whole time in the hospitality tent drinking without seeing any athletics at all. I've seen it - I got given some tickets a couple of years ago, our section of the stand was empty, they were all quaffing the wine and guzzing the food in the tent, Let them do that if they wish, but why not let the real athletics fans have the tickets to watch?
I have been allocated less 10% of the tickets I requested - and I'm actually fairly sure that those aren't athletics tickets. I didnt go for hundreds of tickets, only 2 x 2 nights of athletics, and 2 x 2 of another sport (which I think I have got).
I think that, rather than encouraging people to come into the sport, the attitudes taken will push people away. I am certainly rethinking what i do in my spare time - perhaps do something where I am a little more appreciated for all the time and money I put into it, with not even a thank you.
On a similar line to you, we only applied for the one sport that my daughter has competed nationally in for the last 10 years and made it to the national championships of this sport each year. Her younger sibling has also made it to national level and we would have loved the chance to see the best in action in a sport we follow. Luckily for my older daughter she has competed internationally as a junior and has had the chance to see some of those that will be competing in the olympics. Even competing against some of them earlier this year in her first senior event.
It's a shame that those that are dedicated to their sport are not getting a chance to participate by going to watch. It was always her dream to compete at 2012, has trained hard and been very dedicated. Watching would have been the next best thing.

Surely planning a holiday around a ticketing system that was effectively a lottery was a bit premature?
It is certainly a shame that you can't do what you had been thinking about, but, like you say, at least you have something that you had specifically requested. The rest of us have to wait and see in the second ballot and the general scrum that will no doubt happen further down the line.
There seem to be a lot of disappointed people who didn't get what they were hoping for - they seem to have forgotten that it was effectively a lottery and we were all made fully aware of how it worked at the time, so I'm at a loss as to why people are unhappy!
Be pleased you got something that you asked for and look out for further releases in the future. You never know, you might get something else to fill the day with!0 -

have i completely mis-understood the payment side of this???? I thought that payment could be taken up to 10th June... so in theory I could still get my tickets - unlikely probably but I do like living in hope
Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning0 -

I think they were doing all the payments up until yesterday at midnight and anything after that until 10th June was for people who had been successful but their payment had failed for some reason.
The news coverage has been a bit confusing and the 2012 website itself doesn't do much to clarify the issue!0 -
I applied for 2 athletics sessions and a football quarter final at Wembley. It look like I got 1 athletic session and the football.0
