Heaven knows where I could find the flu buddies! Especially if, being a non-driver, you can't reciprocate. I have two high-risk people in my household (a adult with Parkinsons, on the official list, and a child with Down Syndrome, about to be on the official list), so would be expecting to need anti-virals.

Unless you have been raised in and stayed in one place for a long time, few people have that many physically close family and friends ... but not too close as they'll have it too. None of our family live less than 250 miles away anyway. I have a friend from work, but she is recovering from a serious illness and waiting for a gallbladder removal - NOT someone I could ask. Other people from work all commute long distance, as they never relocated when they were appointed. An old school friend could help, but is a good 5-6 miles away and works full time in another city. Other than that, it's the kindness of neighbours. We only moved in 6 weeks ago ... The good thing is this is a ultra-friendly and extremely nosy street and a lot of people have been here 30 years or more. I would hope everyone just pulled together.

To clarify: By "official list", I just mean the list of conditions that are regarded as increasing the risk of complications and that will mean they are offered vaccination when it is available.

As obesity and smoking are of more risk to health than swine flu I will not have any stockpiles of food or cigarettes in the house.;)
We are 2 adults 4 kids so theres usually someone who can get out and about if needs be, and a super duper pharmacist down the road :)

    Hi kelly,

This thread has useful lists of what's worth having in in cases of emergency:

We have had a lot of snow here, managed to do a supermarket shop on Sunday but we didn't get to the butchers on Saturday so using the freezer supplies and if the worst happens and we can't get out at all we have a bread maker and plenty of flour etc...my DH laughs at my siege cupboard but at least we have food a plenty if we need it.
