I think I could survive a flipping siege, I have nearly everything that's already been mentioned, bar the fresh water and the camping gas stove but I'm not doing it because I'm preparing for a natural disaster, I'm doing it in case I suddenly find myself unemployed and having to claim JSA. *fingers crossed*

Well...there speaks someone who already knows JUST how appallingly low JSA is....I do wish more people were aware that it isnt enough to live on.

me too... but mainly chocolate and beauty products! oh and alcohol.

I don't know how I'd live without certain products. Although I'm not sure what use they'd be in a proper disaster.

as long as you have a couple of days worth of food, some comfort food, a decent bottle of wine/beer/scotch, I dont think you will ever have to worry about the shops running out of food. If you were a supermarket tycoon, would you ever see your market dry up on you? This country is awash with food, just buy some tissues and worry about hay-fever.

I was thinking about this in bed last night.. no idea why.

Assuming the power stays on, I worked out we have enough food to ration in the house for about 3 months of little activity. Probably 2 if we all still went to work.

I only commented the other day that I may be a little wierd but come a disatser round my house is where you'd want to be!

I can grow fruit and veg, can cook from ingredients, can build fires, have woodburning stoves and camping stoves with gas, can fish and catch / shoot and gut rabbits and pigeons etc. We have wind up radios and torches as well as battery powered lanterns and candles from our camping supplies.

Except for having a water source, I'm pretty self sufficient and feel that I'm prepared for most things. Of course, should I fall ill for a few days this would all go completely to pot as MrS would be worse than useless :D

I have the complete basic kit for cooking, water purifying and medications. Then I have the kit for lighting and radio. Everything is wind up if possible. Then I have the basic stock of tins (which I am busy winding down as I had enough for an army). Dried proteins ie beans and seeds. Dried cereals ie rice, flour etc. Oils.

I have lots in store besides but I think the above includes the basics. I know where there are reasonably clean streams and I have collapsable carriers.

Everything is hidden away so I don`t notice it

I must admit though that I am running down some of the foodstuffs, which I collected last autumn. Mind you it was very money saving as food has gone up 8% :D

I was stocking up just a wee bit in case of strikes or weather, but now suppose the same stocks with a few tweaks, will do for flu, with the addition of some chemist stuff. TY everybody !
