I do have a "emergency" box, but I'm not sure what kind of energency it is for. Probably an ASDA delivery lorry breaking down is the best it could cope with.
1 litre bottle of vegetable oil
2 litre bottle of still water
100 tea bags
200g jar of coffee
500g pack of spaghetti
500g pack of white basmati rice
500ml bottle of washing-up liquid
568ml bottle of white vinegar
600ml bottle of Stardrops
410g tin of stewed steak
550g tin of new potatoes
300g tin of sliced carrotsThe acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Luckily don't have a family to feed.
My emergency store is largely round my midriff, so would look on it as the perfect opportunity to shed that last 10lbs!0 -
I think it depends on whether or not there are power cuts which last long enough to defrost the freezer. We'd be fine if the food stays frozen , though I'd be a bit bored without fresh veg. If the freezer goes we'd eat VERY well for a couple of days then we'd be very bored indeed but we wouldn't starve and could easily last a month.
I panic about running out of loo paper so we'd be OK in that department for at least 6 months!!It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

If you were a supermarket tycoon, would you ever see your market dry up on you? This country is awash with food, just buy some tissues and worry about hay-fever.
weather issues are not to be underestimated though... when we had all that snow this feb I was trapped in my house for two weeks and 9 miles from the nearest shop  I didnt starve cos i had a lot in but i ended up eating some very weird combinations!August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
I watched a Ray Mears show once and believe it or not it was set around an epidemic and what to do!
Basically get plenty of rice and pasta in plus tinned meats and tinned fruit anything that won't go off.
Loads of hand cranked , solar or battery operated things plus batteries of course, camping stove and gas
Make sure elderly neighbours are ok and form a coalition of neighbours so every one has food.
And the real doozie - Arm yourself in case things start to get nasty
Me I just have 3 months stock in so do my neighbours, so if we share we should last at least a year:rotfl:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

My first emergency store would be to check that I have a sufficient supply of Gordons, tonic water & sliced lemons, i know what keeps a smile on my face lol
after that
Tea,
milk,
coffee,
eggs,
spuds,
onions,
cheese
several packets of ryvita (instead of bread)
I have a good stock already of tinned stuff (Iwas a war-time baby and can well remember rationing)
I have always had tins of sardines, pilchard ect
I think I could probably last out for about 4-6 weeks at the moment if I had to,but I think I would be a bit bored eventually and miss fresh fruit the most0 -
don't forget if you have pets, you need to stockpile a good supply of pet food too0

in a real emergency make sure you have some cigarettes. Even if you're a non-smoker. They'd carry a lot of value and you could use them to barter for food! Same goes for chocolate & beer. Although not too sure whether or not I'd be able to keep chocolate and beer set aside for an emergency - I'd be replacing it every day lol.0
