Edilass - I know what you mean, we have had snow on the ground for a good 10 days, really icy conditions but nothing. Its only now it is hitting the South and South East that it seems newsworthy

Being a northern monkey and remembering several winters like this on the trot when I was a kid we are well stocked up, milk and lactose free milk, bread flour, chicens are still laying , cupboards and freezer are full, coal we have enough for a good week and wood for about 2 months! We dont have gas - ironic that we cant get it where we live, but have a generator just in case, thankfully our heating system old as it is, the boiler plugs into a socket on the wall outside in the boiler house, so in the event of a power cut we just plug it into the genny ;) We live 10 miles from our nearest supermarket so until the snow clears a bit we are going nowhere - kids are chuffed!

Mr K always laughed at me with my winter planning - strangely he thinks I am quite sane now!

Do you not get any newspapers or free newspapers delivered where you live? :D

(Considering the **** they print these days, it's probably a very apt use for them!)

Takes me back a bit to when it was a case of newspapers threaded on a bit of string and hanging on a nail in the outside loo.Only loo we had, and it was the fastest 100 yard dash to get in and out again quickly when the weather was bad:rotfl::rotfl:used to get HUGE spiders living in there as well. This was when I lived on Mersea Island, Essex back in the 1960s.

Well even if it thaws I really shouldn't be going back to the supermarket anyway :o My little freezer is full to the brim and I have about 17 1/2lbs of spuds under my stairs so worst case scenario we can live on spuds for the next month LOL!
I also have about 20 cans of beer so I am pretty well prepared :D

We are still snowed in carwise but we can walk to the main road so it's not too bad, no shops here though nearest is a couple of miles away. DD has her car on the main road so I might borrow it later to do a fresh food shop, we have gone through loads of milk this week due to porridge and hot chocs that we don't always have. I'm always pretty well stocked tbh, haven't done anything special for the snow-BUT I am almost out of milk (only used in tea for OH, we did run out but had 500ml frozen) and have a sneaky feeling my veg box won't arrive today, so I will need some fresh veg-have enough to make the lamb stew today but no greens etc. Hmm, do I just but some when I trek to the shop for milk? (I live near a town centre so can always walk in to the shops-so I don't usually worry too much, just can't decide if I risk a veg overload or drought)

We had heavy snow here for 2 weeks before Christmas before the North got it.
As we live on the edge of the Dunstable Downs the snow hasn't really thawed and last night and this morning we had about 4 inches more and they say we have more to look forward to this afternoon. I must say looking at the sky there is a lot more ready to drop

Well I did manage to get home yesterday morning. I also left home 3 hours before my shift began cause I was worried I wouldn't make it in (4 miles). We had 5 inches. I got in after 1.5hrs. Really cold! Got home wanting coffee and the huge milk carton was off so I had dried milk. Luckily our little shop had some milk but no delivery. I'm more concerned about getting home today as DH has to go to work so I have to get home. That's fine so long as someone relieves me!
