I read about someone who puts yogurt in with the paperwork they want to destroy, so it will go mouldy. They wet it first as well.0 -
You should check whether you're in a smokeless zone first.
Apologies if someone's already said that ...0 -
I burn anything important on a calm / wind free day in the same sort of metal bin / lid flue you are talking about.
I check first that the neighbours haven't got windows wide open / are having a bbq / haven't got loads of washing on the line.
after it is done i pour water on it to damp it off and give it a good stir with a stick.
When it is nice and dry it goes on the compost pile.
Try and be as considerate as possible seems to be reasonable / sensible.0 -
If you had a compost bin, then this is an excellent way of getting rid of your paper waste. Crunch it up and chuck it in. It's very useful as it browns up all your kitchen greens quite nicely and makes excellent compost.
Why not think of starting a compost heap? Now is an fortuitous time, you have all that paper to use in it.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

After lots of lurking I decided to start a diary and the baby steps I am taking is picking me up but I do have my down days. I dont feel as lost when I am on here but its just generally out and about.
Thank you. xx
Hehe I read this as "start a dairy". I was like, is that really the best idea when you are trying to sort out your financesMoooo!!
nice one for trying the alternative to burning. We have a neighbour who burns stuff, but in a very antisocial way - it isn't just dry paper and wood, it's fresh lawn clippings, plastic etc. makes awful black smoke. Our windows and the car are always absolutely filthy, even just after we've had them cleaned.
Oh and you HAVE to try freecycle / freegle. You would be amazed at the stuff that's on there, and the generosity of people when you ask for something. Last week I gave away a shoebox full of old craft odds and ends and the lady who came to collect it had brought a box of quality st for me! I protested, but she insisted. Win!0 -
I bought one to burn loads of branches etc that were spiky etc. the one tip i would recommend is douse the area uder and around with water first as one spark in warm weather and it can ignite anything.
it is smokey at first but settles down, i checked with local council first to ensure it was ok, basically i can light fires occasionally at , any time of day so long as im considerate to neighbours and check smog warnings etc first so i dont add to it.***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -

well that makes sense, yogurt is a breading bacteria and mould loves damp! (I have experience with mouldy walls! ) Thank you for the tip xx:j DMP started on 1st Oct 11 - 6 yrs 0 mths till DFD :jMay 2018 Debt free date - Mission to clear before!Depression is a challenge, Debt is a challenge and I have been given these challenges to be a stronger person.
