    Good morning all

Well I'm having a lazy couple of days........working on my sleep deficit and just generally getting my act together.

Kay - some sound advice there from Karma. focus on the money making and then you can set up your not for profit systems when you have "made it". That's what people like Gates and Branson have done.

There is a long tradition of wealthy industrialists doing exactly this - Andrew Carnegie, Cadburys, Rowntree, Lever. Modern equivalents are people like Lord Sainsbury, Elton John, David Beckham. But first you have to make the money.........;) then you can give something back.

I agree though that one of the "problems" of people like us - ie would be entrepeuneurs - is that often we have an over abundance of ideas. I know I do. It can be hard to focus. Sometimes I just cannot switch them off and then I can't sleep. My son calls this "brain whirr".

I have been guilty of this the past couple of weeks, hence the sleep deficit. I'm having to really work hard at switchjng off and relaxing now and again, getting enough sleep and eating properly.

The issue of course is working out which ideas are actually viable. We have to find some way of "stress testing" them to see if they actually work......;). That takes time and money, so it's perhaps better to make sure you have at least one reliable regular income stream set up first before developing the next one.

Its great being "a creative" but one of our weaknesses is that we can have a tendency to be butterflies at times, finding it difficult to stay focussed.

    Guilty as charged, m'lud.:rotfl:

Had a call from my eBay lady, she has a nice little dollop of cash waiting for me. I do like this delegation lark........:D easy money!!

I need to do more of this..........hopefully the flat will serve this function as a btl.

Flat purchase update - solicitors now doing their thing so there's not much for me to do at the moment. Inside its a beige box so my design juices have started flowing already.

I have chosen a premium location. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, allocated parking, and a balcony with river views. I think I can milk this and turn it into a highly desirable "apartment" rather than it being just another boring bland rental "flat" I want to make it a sophisticated stylish city pad that will appeal to high fliers with high incomes so I can charge premium rates. :rotfl:

Keep going people.......we're on our way.;)

One thing I'm trying to do at the moment is "streamline" and simplify.

I'm trying to automate and simplify systems, get more organised and use my time more efficiently.

I have gradually been getting more into online shopping. This week I decided to try out the Am&s&n "sign and save". If you sign up to buy 5 items or more on a fairly regular basis you get 15 per cent off each item.

So I signed up for cat food (monthly), dishwasher tablets and good coffee (every two months) and washing detergent (every 4 months). I saved a decent amount and of course it helps my back - no lugging heavy shopping. I'm hoping this will free up even more time.

I also signed up to their "prime" package a few months ago for movies etc. This includes free delivery on a lot of the things we buy. It cost £79 for a year and we have got our money's worth already.

Don't worry I have plenty of ideas on how I can fill all the time I save. Tango classes anyone. :rotfl:

I had no idea it could be that specific - one more thing to research :D

Just worked out the savings......they do mount up.

The unit prices tend to be cheaper than normal retail prices anyway but when you take off the further discounts then the savings really start to add up.

Normally I stock up on cat food when it's on offer, usually saving £1 a pack. With this scheme I have saved £2 a pack, plus of course I don't have to lug it home.

I'm going to look and see what else I can sign up for.

Obviously storage might be an issue but if you've got a bit of space it's worth looking at. I'm a member of Costco too so I do bulk buy quite a bit anyway.

That sounds great! Where are you doing the writing? If you've read through the thread, you'll see that I witter on about my writing a *lot* :o:o:o I got confirmed status from elance, but actually hooking the jobs seemed impossible :(

    Overtime and tutoring are brill.

Yep to the blogging too. I'm in the middle of learning how to monetise via Adsense, and put a code into my latest blog on the cats, but after several days its still showing a blank beige. I think I have to contact my guru on here to beg for help :D

Sounds great! You've done the whole DFW thing on here, haven't you? There's a lot of detailed help available on that board, to make your income go a *lot* further, which helps with the speed of paying down debt and saving deposits.

I have a free morning, so Adsense work it is. I don't really know what I've done wrong, which makes it difficult to describe to people :(

I'm using textbroker for the writing :) can't get into Fiverr, Odesk etc., as its too saturated. I'd have to work for pennies to establish a reputation initially but I just don't have the time to commit to barely paid work for the sake of building reputation at the moment .. !

Had a second-stage interview for a better paid job today. It's looking quite positive and I've discovered it's only me VS one other person left!

Wish I could join Costco but I understand you have to have a traders licence or something?

In other news, currently drafting my first post for the brand new blog.. Have around 2 months content in my head but don't want to go live without a 6 month plan :) going to stockpile some posts that aren't time bound

No there are two tiers of membership. Trade and personal.

The only significant difference really is personal membership means fewer shopping hours. Trade members can shop before noon.

Given that they don't open till 10.00 that's no real hardship, except you don't get a free cup of coffee.:rotfl:

When My husband died I just switched from trade to personal. No biggie.

Good luck with the job interviews.

LL great heads up on the shopping front. Ive saved a bundle by meal planning but miss all the reduced stuff as I go on a Monday now (sundays reserved for family time)

Ive just signed upto air b n b as after the success of lodgers I think dipping my toe on a less encroaching scale will work for us now.
I started y working life in hotels and always wanted a b&b so this is a bit of a play at it for me.

Will let you know how I get on

There is a 'dream house' I have saved on rightmove...575k price tag but ts an old school house with land 5 bedrooms, 5 receptions which I would love to have as a B&B...we only need 3 beds and a family room as we are always in the kitchen so the scope is good. just need to find the $$$ haha dream big!

I've enjoyed reading through this thread (not all of it!) and would like to join you all. (Yes, I've recently read Rich Dad, Poor Dad and am part way through Think Yourself Rich, lol).

I'm a lot older than many of you, (46), so starting this very late. But better late than never. :)

I have a few ideas buzzing round in my head, but nothing concrete ATM, and none that will get me there on its own.

I only have around £8K in liquid assets, a very small portfolio of index trackers and a small pension pot I no longer contribute to. So, I have a long way to go and not a huge time frame!

Hopefully, committing my intentions to writing, here as well as elsewhere, will keep me motivated.

    Hi prudence and welcome......

No you are not the oldest.....I can give you 15 years.:rotfl:

    Tink. Air B&B looks interesting.

whilst I as away on holiday I missed a cute little cottage (well it had cuteness potential.) in a location that is perfect for holiday letting. (That will teach me to have holidays........:rotfl: ) So I think once the flat is up and running I might look for something along those lines.

I'm not sure i would be very good at running a B&B but I think I could do holiday lettings.

The school sounds perfect for a B&B. Will you go for "homely" or go all posh and go "Boutique Hotel". :rotfl:

Not long now till your trip to BAli.

Picked up my eBay money yesterday, every little helps.......I have a box of stuff ready for the auction house, will try and drop that off next week.
