I saw an advert on a bus for a taxi company "Needing to get to the airport? We'll get you their."
Shame on the person that wrote it, shame on the company that made up the sign, shame on the bus company for allowing it on their bus, and shame on the driver for taking the bus out that day. I even feel a little bit of shame for not following the bus to the depot and ripping the sign right off the back.

yes it's amazing how it got past so many people isn't it !!!!

There are some terrible mistakes in the Blackpool and Fylde College prospectus too, at least there were in last years !!!!!

I actually emailed a satnav company once as I'd found a full page ad in some mag with three errors on four lines of text (actually I was hoping for a freebie satnav, but get so much as a reply lol).

Even sadder, I just searched through my old emails to find it!

    Saddojo :o x
PS just found another mistake in it lol. Am sure it's 'licence' for a car not 'license'. Hmmm.

Really couldn't figure out what this was for a moment. I prefer the vision of brides on horseback riding up the aisle firing guns and shouting "yee-ha" :D

The silly thing is, they write it but they wouldn't say it like that. "I brought a new house".

Sadly not true. My boyf has never "bought" anything as far as I know - I've given up correcting him whenever he uses the word "brought" in the wrong context. Having seen it so often on here, I was beginning to wonder if it formed some part of a local dialect in his part of the world (Hampshire)

Amazingly enough, in the 2 years we've been together, I can count on one hand the number of occasions where his use of the wrong word has actively changed the meaning of his sentence (i.e. "brought" actually fit the sentence in the place where he meant to say "bought"). Those times it was necessary to stop him and find out what he actually meant.

Our local bus station had a whole batch of signs put up recently saying " For your own saftey do not stand on this bench". I pointed it out to the Bus inspector and much to my surprise they were all taken down and correctly spelt ones put in their place.
Waits for someone to write " how is that spelt wrongly".
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Depends. Licence and license are both English words.

Verb A car can be licensed - so you could license a car.

Noun A licensed car would have a licence.

I love this thread! I think my signature says it all! I saw a notice in our local shop the other day thanking people for their donations and that a plack would be erected in the village square. Bless!
