This is just what happens to me - nice to know I am not alone. I have uninstalled and reloaded but the same.
System cleaned once a day,
Anything I can try or how can I get back to 3.6?
TIA
Working your way through http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox could well improve matters.
A clean reinstall made a huge difference for me, though I have to say that Firefox 4 is not, imho, the world beater I was hoping for.
I remain hopeful that Firefox 5 will be better. Fingers crossed!
Only about 6 weeks to wait I think.0 -

Tried it for a couple of weeks then just recently went back to the older version (relief!).
For me, it was incredibly slow and constantly freezing up . I thought it was my awful PC but we had the same problems on another PC in the house which is > 6 months old.

Have you tried creating a new profile?
It sometimes does the trick- Close Firefox
- Go to the windows "Start" button
- select Run
- Within Run type Firefox -ProfileManager (this should start the Profile Manager in Firefox)
- Create a new profile and run Firefox
Further ideas for a Firefox Spring clean can be found here ... http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2010/01/spring_cleaning_for.html
Someone also mentioned Opera, it's quite good too, you can give it a try and see if it works for you.
grizzly1911 / OohSoHolly let us know how you get on.

Fair enough, I assumed you were doing it that way because most older installs of linux haven't updated to FF4, if you're interested in running firefox on a linux box without wine installed though its the way to go, linux portable.0 -
What I did was: Saved my bookmarks and passwords
Made a new profile.
Imported/restored the bookmarks and passwords into the new profile.
Then cleaned out the MVPs hosts file.
Installed adblock plus with easy list and malware (thanks Russ) subscriptions
Updated to Firefox 4
My turn to thank you - I've been meaning to make a new profile for ages, but the password issue was getting in the way (I've loads). Once I knew it was possible to back them up, it was just a matter of finding a way.
I'm surprised what a difference it's made! Especially on the netbook. Noticeably faster (and I was already on FF4).
People still on Firefox 3.6 have more options with Addons to back up various parts of the profile, but the main option I could find for people already on FF4 is Password Exporter:

Interesting addon. I've bookmarked it for future reference.
When I did it, I copied across the necessary files from my old profile from the list here http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile#w_passwords
It worries me that Firefox needs this care and attention though. It shouldn't be necessary. I can't imagine people I know wanting to be bothered with it.0 -

Hi Russ just to let you know Password Exporter did not work on 4.0.1 . ( I had to back-out my 4.0.1 this morning to 4.0 cos I forgot to renew them on my portable copy....) It is worth pointing out that some extensions can take a couple of days at least, and NIS extensions take a wee bit longer, to catch up with Mozilla's updates.... But hey ho we all live and learn4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I've just used it on two computers and four profiles under 4.0.1 without a hitch. What happened with yours?0 -

It was not compatible until this PM , hey but NIS toolbar still isn't yet
it is worth pointing out to every one that if they rely on add-ons for any browser they should not update their browser before the add-on is released, of course add-ons are not something anyone should rely onI rolled back my portable bit this morning so I could import the latest password list, came back tonight and the new version was out , too long in the pub:rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks everyone for your many replies!
I upgraded to firefox 4 earlier today - it does seem faster so far? I have a 19" screen so no need for extra space so I have added the menus bar back in as on the previous version because I like to see them!
I currently have adblock plus add on enabled (as suggested to me by russJK!) should I use no script thingy too?"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"
