For myself, I found it was too excessive for general use as well.
I'd agree with that, but Noscript does seem to have some benefits even when configured to be at it's least effective.
I've run the security tests at http://www.browserscope.org/ with and without Noscript
What I have found is that having it set to allow scripts globally, meaning it does not get in the way at all, does add some extra security features to Firefox.
Having said that, I'm not technical enough to know whether the Browserscope tests are accurate, so opinions on that would be helpful.

Why run it in wine? Can you not download the linux version from their website which appears self contained and runs find from the folder its extracted to and will automatically use your preferences in the home folder.

Sorry 23n1th, but i run it under wine cos its a true portable app ie on a stick and has other bits alongside which I don't want to install on every pc i come across and I can then carry linux bits and windoze bits on the same bit of plastic (two actually which I sync up daily ...well when I remember) I used to use similar with cd/rw but of course times change:cool:

Tried it for a couple of weeks then just recently went back to the older version (relief!).

For me, it was incredibly slow and constantly freezing up . I thought it was my awful PC but we had the same problems on another PC in the house which is < 6 months old.

Looks wise, from personal opinion again I dont like it (IE much?). It seems to fancy for me, but then again I just want something that works idc if it has rounded tab corners..;)

No problems with it at all.
Had to move the "Home" button in from the cold, but that's it.

Can't believe anybody would run Firefox without NoScript.
    May as well use IE.

The major visual differences I've noticed is:

    1. the tabs are now at the top of the screen (above the URL bar) rather than just above the web page

Right click in a blank area at the top of the screen (at the right side of the tabs) and Uncheck Tabs on top

    2. A firefox button next to the tabs with all the settings inside
This goes away if you show the menu bar as below

    3. File, edit etc. are now hidden
Right click in a blank area at the top of the screen (at the right side of the tabs) and Check Menu Bar

    4. a bookmarks tab on the right hand side just above the web page
This is an option in the customize menu, not required if you use the menu bar.

    5. A bar on the bottom left shows what pages are loading
    Didn't Firefox already do this?

All-in-all well worth the effort of updating.

This is just what happens to me - nice to know I am not alone. I have uninstalled and reloaded but the same.

    System cleaned once a day,

Anything I can try or how can I get back to 3.6?

    TIA

No idea on what might help prevent the freezing/slowness. But if you do want to revert back here is the link for the previous version: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

No need to Uninstall the version 4 either, it will simply go back to the 3.6 version after install.

I was suffering from slowness on 3.6. Took ages to load the first time after a fresh boot. I put this down to profile rot.
    What I did was:
    Saved my bookmarks and passwords
    Made a new profile.
Imported/restored the bookmarks and passwords into the new profile.
Then cleaned out the MVPs hosts file.
Then uninstalled noscript - it gets in the way too much
Installed adblock plus with easy list and malware (thanks Russ) subscriptions
    Updated to Firefox 4

Not for the faint hearted but it's now blindingly fast
