Hi all...hope you're all well...what a day I've had never rains but it pours!!...ever get those monday morning blues?...my electrics on the cab decided to play funny b.....s this morning ...so of I totters to the garage...they tried a new battery in the key fob...to no avail...why can't life be simple?...the windows were going up and down as well the central locking wouldn't work and I thought I'd mention the annoying squeak it'd developed..they said leave it with us ...we'll have it ready for 2pm...at least they brought me home saved £8 taxi fare...so couldn't work today!!...it got round to 3pm ...so phoned them and car was just ready...so they came and picked me up to take me to the garage..they had to redo all the electrics in the door (2 1/2 hours labour)...due to idiots letting go of the door in the wind...(child locks are going to be on from now on then they can't get out)...and 2 fuses had gone..luckily the squeak was only a dry alternator belt so they just sprayed that...luckily...they only charged me 1 1/2 hrs labour..total bill £111.07...£104.87 labour wish I was a mechanic...why is it you go 1 step forward 2 steps back?...that's my total spend for today!!
Hope you're all having a better day than me!!     :mad:0 -
Well after an annoying day today ...I had a brainwave(wondered what the smell was)...I had over £3000 available on my MBNA credt card at 0% for balance transfers...so I rang them to transfer that amount of cash into my current account (will take 6 working days)...as I have my tax to pay in january and I'm in my overdraft...costing me whatever interest...I can then cover both...and as long as I'm paid up on my september statement...is 0%...this means I can concentrate on getting some savings built up...I know it's not usually a good idea when you're in debt but as I'm SE it's important that I have my tax money ready for january and that I have some money available for car repairs etc(anything to do with the cab ideally)...
I also have an appointment with the bank on wednesday as I wish to open a high interest savings account to put my tax money in...I also want to change my ISA to an higher interest paying one as it's was only paying 3.75% when I checked a couple of weeks ago..think it may have gone up since with the interest rate..I'll see what they're offering...don't need to take what they offer me though as can shop around..also the added bonus with this is my current account pays a decent rate of interest when in credit...thanks to this site I seem to be getting better with my finances..can't wait until everythings paid...then I'm going to clear the mortgage:j :j :j0 -
Hi Taxi, have a look on the savers board on here for the best ISA rates.
Halifax are offering 5.25% on an internet ISA from £1. (I know as I did a mystery shop with them yesterday)
Bad news about the car....must be the weather.
OH set off to work in his van yesterday at 6am, next thing he's back, the rear lights on his van were out. So off he went in the car.
Before he left I got the usual question, *what are you doing today* I'm working, i replied, so i can't take your van to the garage. ;p
Is your cash advance covered by the 0% on your card?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Hi Just reading your diary, re car - was this a main dealer? My dear children played with the interior light last month and as a result broke this and knackered the fuses for the central locking, the windows and all the interior lights, the local garage only charged me £37 including the VAT?Proud to be dealing with our debts - We WANT to be debt free DEC 09

Hi whatatwit..hope you're ok..sorry to hear about the van...has he checked the fuse?....yes my cash advance is covered by the 0% deal...don't know why I didn't think of it sooner...lol...I do all my banking with the halifax and that's where my appointment is tommmorrow..I think for that rate you've to have over £3000 ...I only have £200 but it's a start ..there web saver has quite a good rate...nearly 5%...so may get that one as well..sometimes you get extra interest on accounts if you have a few products with them..thanks for that info0

Hi banana it was...mine had to have all the doors re-wired ..as when a passenger had opened the door in the wind...it had pulled out of there hand and yanked the wiring out...I use the main dealer because...they will always look at the car straight away...as local garages ...don't seem to understand time is money...so a local garage can be much cheaper cash-wise but time wise not so good...one had my car for 3 days and so I lost 3 days take...to be honest he was only about £10p'h cheaper but I lost more than that in takings ...it took him 2 days to lok at it...if I could find one that appreciated my custom and realised this is my earnings then I would use independants..0

Hi everyone...here I am again to bore you...(sorry)...well yesterday my roofer came and fixed the roof...so nipped to bank and faxed the invoice to insurers ...then came home left it a couple of hours then phoned to check that they'd received the fax and the lady said yes and said "right I'll authorise the payment to your bank account, it will be there in 5 working days"...if that happens I'll be very happy and surprised!!...no need to think it won't be there though...
Well I've had quite a productive morning ...I went to the bank..to see the nice man(they booked an appointment with the man who sells pensions and shares...lol...as if I've any money for that)...anyway savings wasn't his cup of tea so I saw another nice lady...so journey wasn't wasted..I have changed my over the counter ISA to an online one with them..result interest up from 3.85% to 5.25% and opened a websaver account with no card as this gives me 5% interest against 4.5% if I took a card...didn't see any point in a card as I will just transfer the money into my current account then write the cheque for the tax man...voila...quite proud of myself for that one!!
This site has really taught me to look into all aspects of finance rather than just trying to trim a few pounds off the shopping and bills and those pennies certainly do mount into pounds!!...it's amazing what you discover on here and what you can pass on ..and...I haven't even gone into every board yet!!...
You'll never believe what I did yesterday...when the roofer was here I asked him if he had a small off-cut of wood I could have...to fix my gate...he said sure and cut me one...the reason I'm smiling to myself is that previously I wouldn't have asked...I would've gone to the shop and bought it...when my husband said what do you want it for..he said he'd have bought it...I said I'm doing it in MSE style!!!..he p....d his self laughing..this place really does get to you...LOL
Well that's all folks going to check through the boards...see you later my friends0
