Afternoon all...yes chipping away it is and will continue to be for a long time yet....that's a nice saying as well Oliveoyl...I like that one ...don't get me wrong I'm happy with my boring life but I thought i was becoming boring...IYSWIM...I would still have a boring life even if I had loads of money as I work in the day and stay in at night...on my own as DH works at night and sleeps in the day so I get to see him for a couple of hours in the afternoon..it will enable us to work only 5 days a week instead of 6 so that will be good...
Sorry for rambling!!!!...so what have I done today?...just work which was really quiet then the banking and picked up my meat from Aldi...done my clicks etc and a you gov survey...will have a catch up now

    Thanks for that Sea xx
  • Certainly, definitely, absolutely NOT boring, taxi!

Yours is one of the first 2 diaries I look for each time I log on, and with so much other interesting stuff on MSE I wouldn't be wasting my time doing that if I thought what you've done and said was boring. So there!

Have another good day. I've come to a total standstill debt-busting-wise but I'll plod on again today in the hope I find a way I hadn't thought of yet:rolleyes:

Evening everyone...ok I'll take your word for it then!!!....In answer to your question...the only way I've managed to pay off so much is by following Martins principles and other tips I've found on here...I have a look at all my DDs every 3 months to see if I can save any money there....I also pay both my taxi insurance and car insurance in one lump sum so that I don't have to pay interest on them...I have stopped buying treats like magazines and bits and pieces as these can amount to a lot over a year...I wear my clothes until they wear out instead of buying loads and loads...I only buy what shopping we need and we cook from scratch...so not as much waste....I really think now before buying anything...and after putting the tax money away and the holiday money and after paying all bills will pay whatever I can off debt...so it really is a whole mixture of measures...we don't miss out as we tend to go to a cafe or something on our day off and have a meal and so still get a treat...I let all minimum payments get paid by DD..and then pay any extra to the barclaycard...when thats finished it will be the egg card....I also shop in Aldi most of the time as their food is quite good quality and cheaper...
So on to today..I worked today and it was a bit slow but is money in the pot all the same and all helps...apart from that not done much...I've just been to the papershop and they had some beautiful handcrafted gift bags for £1.29...so have bought 2 of these to put my girls hampers in.I haven't seen any decent baskets for a reasonable price..so will use these this year and look for baskets in the sale jan ready for next christmas....I will shred some tissue paper to make them look professional...It's DD2s birthday saturday so have got her card and just need to put some money in friday and then thats done...shes 19 and off out with her mates so at least I don't have the expense for parties anymore!!!..off to have a catch up now...have a good night everyone xxx

Hi Taxi :) Wow - so many changes - really you are inspirational! :)

Have you had a look round Instore? I saw some nice cheapish baskets in there - but I don' tknow what size you're looking for. Argos also have some nice (unusual) baskets & boxes - perhaps worth looking at int he sales.

  • see it is all those little things isnt it eh! I often find myself slipping in the odd magazine here & there but then realise that some cost over £3! Well done you for resisting! I must do better!!

I did look in there ..thanks but didn't see what I was really looking for but being so close to christmas now...and due to the shops being busy I'm just not in the mood to wander around them..so will leave it until the sales now..
They cost an arm and a leg those magazines and I found I was spending hundreds of pounds a year!!!...when you add the cost of an item by what it's costing per year..it then gives you a wake up call ..or it did in my case
