Hi to you all,
Here's a link from the register and bbc about Road Tolls.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/09/car_snoop_petition/
https://www.news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5249538
https://www.petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/
this online petiton has had over 336,000 people sign against road tolls
Personally I don't think we should be charged per mile aswell as paying Road Tax and around 70% tax on petrol.

Fuel Tax.
Annual Road Tax.
Pay-as-you-drive Tax in discussion.
Road Tolls.
Its getting a bit silly really. The truth is that the most effective system of taxing motorists lies in Fuel Tax. You get taxed more the more you use, and if you decide to have a fuel efficent car, you reap some benefit. The problem with other systems like the road charges currently in discussion is that they will cost a fortune to impliment, probably running way over budget, will not be on time, as they never are, and will be circumnavigated by some. The fuel tax system is in situ, costs very little to change at any given time, and inherently encourages greener drivers. Id scrap everything except fuel tax, as I see no reason why someone who drives 5k a year should pay the same Annual Road Tax as someone who drives 50k a year. Undoubtly the government will opt for the most expensive, impratical option though."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -

Road tax isn't spent on roads. Dropping it for some = reduction in overall taxation = never in a month of sundays.0 -

Not all of the tax is spent on roads, and there doesnt need to be any drop in the revenue that the government receive. If the average road tax is something like £150 p/a, the fuel duty would have to rise so that the average motorist pays an additional £150 p/a. Those who drive very little would pay less, and those who drive a lot would pay more than the present £150. Naturally, you could also scrap the relevant sections in the DVLA as they would become redundant, thus saving more money. Instead of the tax disc, Id replace it with an MOT disc, stating when your MOT is due to expire."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
I don't think we should pay road tolls, as already said, motorists pay in other ways.
If the government is serious about decreasing the numbers of cars on the road then they need to offer alternatives that are attractive to people. It shold not be about pricing the poorest people off the road, as those who can afford it will simply pay.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -

I agree, but I cant think of an alternative method. There has to be a way of discouraging people from driving, but if its not cost based, what should it be?"I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
Hi,
A descent Public Transport system at affordable price, I mean to get from Norfolk to London it costs £65.00 return on the train,, no insentive there especially if you have a family...
Also we could have a fantastic Tram system and bus service.. there are ways round it but unfortunatly the powers that be / big buisness / high money earners would rather have the roads to themselfs and charge us a fortune if we want to join them.
But if more than 360,000 people have signed the online petition, the peoples voice might for once be heard.

Affordable, reliable, integrated public transport. Preferrably that isn't run for profit so that rural services are not rubbish because they arent economically viable profit-wise.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
