OS Daily Saturday 7th May

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 7th May. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hubby was up at 4:45, I was lazy & didn't get up & in the shower til 5:20, it's lashing down here so the garden is getting a good soaking & the waterbutts are filling up. Last year hubby would have been really grumpy at a rainy Saturday, now with his sudden interest in gardening he's full of glee at all this rain.
Todays plans include a meeting with our Handfasting Officiant & a visit from DD & the foster children & making industrial quantities of Piri Piri chicken to feed them all on.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Good morning HH we must be typing at the same time. Good morning everyone.
Well we've had some very welcome rain overnight. The thunder is still grumbling and we've got puddles:)
The baby veggies are ready for this as are the water butts. Still need more, but I think rain is forecast all weekend.
DH has decided that we'll have chicken tikka for dinner today. So he'll make that and dahl and rice and I'll make rogan and saag aloo.
Won't do any washing today. Fairly up to date anyway and it is not drying weather at the moment.
Shall do some de-cluttering and re-locate some belongings away from our house. Well I hope anyway - wish me luck.
Happy Saturday all, hugs and good wishes, cheers Silver xOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Morning Hester, Silver, BB and Lou and all to follow!
Trying to keep up with everyone where I can so that I don't miss too much!
Feel quite self centred in all my posts but honestly we have so much going on I can't think straight, we started work on the house the whole place needed cleaning and painting top to bottom, obviously after being given quotes for between 1500-2000 we swiftly decided we were getting a bit above our station and have been hard at it for days.
While stripping the hallway upstairs however it turns out there had been a leak and the whole ceiling and wall fell down  £400 pounds later and it has been fixed. Does look lovely but coupled with the £1300 carpet bill i'm having a few sleepless nights.
Everywhere else in the house is having a few coats of emulsion just to clean and tidy it up but it is a big old house and is taking a lot of time and paint. We've allowed the children to pick colours for their rooms which seems a bit extravagant given the circumstances but after years in rented with magnolia walls we've decided to treat them!!
I had to tell lovely temp job that I just couldn't cope with work after i've been so poorly the last couple of weeks, Turns out it wasn't mayo poisoning after all but a bug that's triggered my crohns disease off so having to take lots of tablets including insomnia inducing steroids - luckily the care i've had has been great and the baby appears well and is certainly giving me a hefty kick to remind me to slow down!
Well that is about it really! We are off out for dinner tonight - not very moneysaving or OS I know but it's a thank you to OH's father who has not only put two back breaking days into sorting our new house but also helped us get the mortgage to allow us to buy so despite his protests we really would like to treat him and say thank you. I will attempt to ignore the cost for one evening only and enjoy it
Wish me luck please for the coming weeks as it's going to be a bit of a slog and I hope you don't mind me lurking, I love a bit of gossip :rotfl:

Good morning, all. It's raining here, too. A thunderstorm threatened last night but, as it was quite windy, the winds seem to have blown it away. We need the rain, and I know the UK needs it - for the farmers and also to put out the dreadful forest fires that I've been seeing on the news. Still, let's hope it doesn't rain for too long.
Chores today include food shopping, which I should have done yesterday but just ran out of time. I also need to do some baking - bread (still by hand until I can replace my BM - they're very expensive here so I shall get one when we're back in the UK), and our 'Saturday' cake, as DH calls it. It's just a Victoria sponge but his favourite. I made the tea loaf from the recipe that was posted on a separate thread this week, and it was delicious - no eggs or fat, just sultanas, tea, sugar, and flour, so very MSE.
Dinner tonight is undecided - I shall look for inspiration when I go shopping.
We have a vide grenier (French car boot sale) and book fair in a neighbouring village tomorrow - the forecast looks good, so I hope it's dry and sunny.
Hope you all have a great day.
