Hello to all the new people!!!
Good morning all. I have just finished another delightful 12hr night shift. In better news my OH is home from his detachment 4 weeks early so I had a BRILL weekend.
In TTC news, I went to the doctors yesterday to try and get a handle on things. She gave me TONNES of info packs and stuff which I am wading through. She was really helpful. I'm going in for some bloods on wednesday, mostly to check I'm rubella immune (I haven't had the MMR because my parents were mental - but I have had measles, mumps AND rubella so I should be immune anyway!) before we start trying. But they'll also check my hormone levels while they're doing it to see how the PCOS is. GP agreed we'd see how things went August-January and if no joy or seriously irregular cycles we'd look at possible medications in the new year, which I'm happy with.
Have purchased some folic acid supplements which I have started today. The info pack I have says studies have found benefits to taking it for a YEAR before conception so the earlier the better ladies!!
I'm soooo dying to tell people all of this because I'm so excited but I don't really want anyone to know we're trying. I already get the "when are you having kids already?!" question ALL the time so God knows what it'd be like if they knew we were TTC!
Have a wonderful day all, I'm off to bed!

Welcome to Choochi0 and Nejlloyd!
I guess I should think about starting on Folic Acid in the next few months or so. And check my Rubella immunisation. I'm sure I have my immunisation card around somewhere!
Dream - Yay for OH coming home early! And for having such a helpful doctor!
I also know what you mean about wanting to tell everyone. It's sooo exciting, I want to shout it from the rooftops, but at the same time, I don't want them all to know as they'll be asking me every 10 mins if I'm pregnant yet and that would drive me crazy!!
Have good days all!

On the coast in Kent - I love living by the sea and it's one of the things I've missed most whilst we've been abroad. That and Sainsburys. Oh - and mains supply clean water. You know - the type that doesn't come out the tap with maggots in it.
Had a chat with OH when he got home last night and we worked out that if we go for this house (or one similar) then we can afford to buy all the bits we want, do the work on the house we'd like (new kitchens, bathrooms etc) and I'd be able to take 1 or 2 years off work to finish my study and take care of any spuds that may come our way. It's such a nice feeling and makes the years of hard saving really worth it. It also makes me want to learn to be as MSE as possible so we can have everything we want!
Have any of you given any thought to what your long term plans may be in terms of work and kids? I have always been convinced that I wouldn't want to be a full time mum (apart from the first few years where it makes more sense financially for me to stay at home) but after seeing my friend who has come back from maternity leave this week I am not so sure anymore!
My cold seems to be retreating although I still sound like Kermit. I've come back to work today (working hard as you can tell :rotfl:) and now wish I hadn't - I have an inbox full of horrid stuff.
Welcome to the newbies :hello:

Hi Kalama,
Yeah, OH and I have discussed it quite a bit and we tend to swing from me going back to work part time, and me staying at home full time. In the end, I think it will come down to what country we settle in before TTC'ing.
If we stay here, I will most likely go back to work part time. But, if we move back to the UK, it would be for OH's work and I would most likely find it very difficult to find a new job there. We would have to move to Newcastle initially, as that is where OH's office is, and jobs are very, very scarce. So, we decided that if this happens, I will just be a SAHM (stay at home mum) for the forseeable future. Hopefully then, the job market will recover around the time our kids are going off to school, so I would be able to work part time without having to pay out too much for childcare. And, also hoping that we'd be able to move further south in order to be closer to our families.

P.S If anyone can let me in on the secret of how to get my OH to actually hold a baby do share!!
OH didn't really get a choice - everyone else had birthday cake and tea. He had empty hands that quickly got filled with a baby :rotfl:
He did admit that he was scared because he often doesn't know his own strength. On a number of occasions he's given me a playful shove or poke that's ended up leaving a mark on my body (I do bruise really easily but that doesn't stop him feeling bad about it)Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
My OH is the same. My sister had a baby and he still hasn't touched it in the slighest at 8 months old! He refused and shrank into the corner when I brought him near and went to put him in his lap.
He doesn't like babies but thinks it will be different with his own as he won't have a choice. Hmmm. We'll see. It scares me tbh. What if he ends up being awful!0 -

Have you told him this honey? Maybe if he knew how you felt, he'd be more willing to try now, to show you that he'll be OK.
With my OH, he was kinda thrown into it when he met me. I come from a large family and had two family weddings in the first 18 months of our relationship. And being quite afraid of social situations, he actually bonded with my youngest neices and nephew very quickly, as they 'don't expect so much from you' apparantly. lol. Anyway, this led to another family member handing their baby to him before rushing off to the loo! lol
I know he was afraid before that, but he seems more comfortable with it now. Perhaps your OH will be the same? Holding a baby for the first time may seem very daunting, and then he'll be alright afterwards?February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Yes i've told him lots. He says he doesn't know if he will change but recons he will as everyone does when they have kids right?! He says he just isn't excited - he will be when they are a bit more grown up but babies no. He is an only child and apart from my sisters has never been round one so is most likely petrified of the unknown!Yea once it's here he will have no choice lol.0

Oh, and more things to add to my pre TTC to do list:
Embrace a healthier diet, starting this weekend! More veggies and fruit etc.
Ditch the Diet Coke!
Ditch the smokes (I have cut down dramatically already, but want to be smoke free before we start trying!)
(I was just discussing all of the above points with some work colleagues at lunch, and they are encouraging me and telling me I can do it! Woo!)
Continue to sell stuff on Ebay to make money for a new laptop - first item sold for a fiver!
