To be honest I dont really think theres any such thing, when I had DS1 I had bought his pram when I was about 12 weeks I was so excited!

I recently had a m/c at 9 wks and hadnt bought anything, so resisting certainly didnt help!

    What will be will be!
  • amus - you're right in that I don't believe that buying things will actually have any impact on outcomes (I'm not a superstitious sort of person) my concerns is more about what if things don't work out...I just don't think I would cope well with having all sorts of lovely baby things and no baby. I also think that there are sales and opportunities to get bargains all the time so there's no rush to start ahead.

For me, it'll be part of the joy of getting the bfp and having a healthy 12 week scan that I can then start all the shopping!...that's not to say that I don't look at baby things now. I definitely do. And I buy some of it, but what I buy goes to friends with little ones rather than into the spare room for the future.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Hi Everyone! Hope you don't mind me stepping in. Like Trinity, all this time on MSE and I never knew this existed :)

So, I'm 21 and live with my Boyfriend of 4 years (and 8 months) this weekend we had "the talk" and decided that when we've got some savings behind us, and his job is 100% secure we'll start trying. So hopefully around December time!

Love that people are buying things, but I think my boyfriend would label me completely insane if I did that right now :o Unless I hid it at my parents.. :p I'm looking online at the cutesy things, but like Bazzi said, I couldn't cope with having all the adorable things around me if things don't work out for us.

I've only read the first and last couple pages but, what are peoples thoughts on folic acid? Are they taking it now or waiting until they're TTC?
  • Good morning and welcome cinny!

I'm taking folic acid now...partly to try to get into a routine with it so that I don't forget to take it when it really counts (i'm rubbish at remembering tablets!) and partly because I've read studies that say taking folic acid regularly for up to a year before you start ttc reduces your risk of miscarriage or pre-term labour. The risks of these things may not be particularly high anyway, but since I'm a fair bit older than you all the risks are elevated for me and as folic acid is something that is relatively cheap and easy to do I think it's worth doing. If you're unsure about what you want to do you could talk to your doctor or a nurse at your GP practice and see what advice they give....the general NHS advice is available on the following link:
    http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/913.aspx?categoryid=54&subcategoryid=129#close

I tend to follow the advice from Canada (where I grew up) which says that every woman of childbearing age should take folic acid every day...I think this advice is given partly due to the reasons above (reducing risk pre-term labour/miscarriages) but also to reduce risks associated with unplanned pregnancies where a woman may not know she is pregnant in the important early weeks so won't know to start taking the supplement, possibly until it's too late.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • Hi Cinni!

Thanks for that info Bazzi. This isn't something I've thought about, but will definitely be looking into getting some now. From what I read on your link, there's no harm in taking it for long periods anyway, so might as well start now!
  • Sounds like everyone's starting bding in December. I'm going to be all alone :(.

I am spending a whole weekend with my friends and their 8 month that they foster. She's so cute! But I'm going to be super broody by te end of the weekend.

December is just our ideal time :) OH works on comission and needs to get the money he's bringing in to be greater than his wages. And while it could happen next month, he spoke to his boss who said (realistically) that won't happen until Dec/Jan. I won't leave you alone though!

Thanks for the info on FA. I think I might start taking it now, or finally get myself moved to the Doctors in my new village and use it as an excuse to go talk things over with someone :) thanks again!
  • Hi girls
I have been on the hunt for liquid folic acid, seeing as I cannot swallow even the tiniest of tablets!
    Found this :
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Biocare-Vitasorb-Folic-Acid-15ml/dp/B00187ZVLW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346406206&sr=8-1

Going to look for a few reviews, and I have out a call out to my DR so hopefully she will ring soon, so I can ask her about it too!

We probably are TTC at the minute, but we are also looking at it, as if it happens it happens, and I am not planning on 'planning' too much if you know what I mean?

Im the same as a few other girls, would love to start trying a few bits & bobs, but would defo see it as tempting fate - once I am PG, anything bought, will be stored at my parents house.

I thought I would be terrible and screaming for an epidural, but when the time came, I found to my surprise that I wanted to be in control more than I wanted to be out of pain, and in the end delivered both my babies with gas and air (and water the second time). I am pregnant with my third at the moment, and I'm planning to give birth at home in a birth pool, and to be tucked up afterwards in my own bed, with tea, and bread fresh from our bread maker, with my three children to cuddle. Doesn't sound so terrifying when you put it like that, does it?

I really hope that this is what will happen. Anyway, there is no need to think about that because I am not ready yet :D
but then OH had an attack of the Victorians and decided he wanted to get married first.

It sounds like a very dangerous disease :rotfl:

Nope, you won't be alone Trinity :) I will be there with you too as I know I won't be healthy enough by december. I'm thinking Feb/March maybe. And I said MAYBE (I had to repeat that to my husband who always gets carried away :rotfl: )

Funnily enough, I don't really care for other people's children. I do enjoy spending a bit of time with well-behaved toddlers as, let's face it, they can be hilarious!!!! But I don't feel very broody yet. Although the other day, in ikea, I saw the cutest of little babies in her pram and I couldn't help but go all "awwwww, she is so cute" :rotfl:

    Hello Ladies

It's nice to read that people are feeling the same as me - I've been wondering recently if I should just get my coil removed and see what happens.

I'm 35 so starting to think I shouldn't wait a moment longer but I'm getting married in 7 weeks and going on my honeymoon in February - there is a lady in the office who is pregnant and has suffered terribly with morning sickness/tiredness etc. We've discussed TTC and she has said to definitely wait until the honeymoon as it has ruined a couple of her holidays but they weren't a big long haul holidays as she knew she was pregnant and 5 months waiting won't really make any difference.

So basically I'm torn as my head says stick to the plan to have coil removed January and my heart sometimes says hurry.

I've been taking folic acid for about 1 month now for the reasons Bazzi gave - it's easy to do, I understand there are no side effects to taking it so why not!?
    Got married October 2012 :j
    Hoping to conceive 2013 :D
