I might have to borrow your mantra. At the moment 'Go for it before it's too late' is what seems to be cycling through my head!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
I must admit, I've been a bit shocked by what some people 'do without' when pregnant / having a small child. There are some ladies that come through the service who literally have nothing, yet seem to cope. I know what you mean about feeling petty about the things we consider to be 'essential' when others do without so much! I know it's not something to aspire to, and I still think waiting was the right decision; but it puts things into perspective when you're talking to a teen who's technically 'homeless' and taking her newborn back to a b&b :eek:0

Hi Hopelass
Thank you for the welcome. I am starting to get excited about the wedding now, it seems to be coming around quite quickly now.
We sound like we are in similar positions and I told my OH that we would both have to start taking supplements after the wedding (3 months before we start trying properly) and he was a bit reluctant at first but at least I've planted the seed now and will continue to tell him the benefits so it won't come as such a surprise after the wedding :rotfl:
Are you taking your temperature etc too? I also have concerns about the pregnancy and healthy baby but that's just me worrying rather than experience in your job but I just think of all the healthy babies out there and keep my fingers tightly crossed we'll have one of those!?? Another case of not knowing until you try/crystal ball.
Good luck with the new car. We are considering a new house after the honeymoon too - a bigger family house so there will be lots going on in the next 6 months, exciting (if not scary!!) times.
I look forward to following your journey in the next 6-8 weeks :j
Hi again!
Well we have got the car - a nice respectable 5 door Mazda and OH has just gone to pick it up so I am going to go and play with all the gadgets/buttons when he comes back :rotfl:
It certainly is exciting AND scary! We did the house thing last year - moved from a city centre flat to a 3 bed semi in the suburbs (god we sound old:D)
I'm not taking my temp yet; I think the plan will be to try without first and see how things go but get more serious with temping etc if nothing seems to be happening.
Euro - Hugs for your insensitive friend (I mean for you not him!)
Bazzi - I have seen a bit of that prog but couldn't warm to it - the first one was in a hospital that could be one of my choices being only 3 miles away and in the city centre but it looked so grubby and one of the midwives was so abrupt that I think I'll stick to my local district general!
Welcome Amus and hello to anyone I have missed - I need to rush off because have potatoes baking in the oven and last time I did this one exploded all over the oven because I didn't !!!!! itscared the carp out of me!!! I have thoroughly stabbed these with a big knife so should be ok this time
Hugs to all in need xxFirst baby due October 2013 :j0 -
Oooh it edited me! Can't you say pr1ck?First baby due October 2013 :j0

It seems not!
That new programme doesn't paint nearly as nice a picture as One Born Every Minute! (although one of the midwives on One Born was a right cow too!) There's definitely less polish on it so it seems a lot more gritty.
How much choice do you get in what hospital you go to for the birth here? Do you have to go to your nearest one or pay to go private or are their options on the NHS?
One of my big reservations about having kids is that I don't really understand how the systems work here! I'll have no idea what age they have to start school at etc and I didn't realise they visit you at home. I also find it odd that medical advice about pregnancy and looking after babies is so different here from back home...I'll be very tempted to follow the advice from home but wonder how that will go down with people here!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Hi Bazzi
I'm certainly no expert but as far as I am aware you can choose which NHS hospital you can go to - this is quite a good link. Somewhere on this site you can do comparisons of hospitals near you and see reviews etc......

As for school age etc I'm also not sure! I should be given I work in paediatricsFrom what I know there is a nursery year followed by reception year and then Year 1 at school. the nursery year *I think* doesn't have to be where the child will be going to primary school - really should read up on this stuff!:rotfl:

Thank you Hopelass...I may need to do some reading up too. Or cross my fingers and hope that someone sends a letter when it's time to send em off to school!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Hi all, hope everyone is doing well...
I'm so frustrated....last night I mentioned the news story from this week about the most popular baby names...and OH said "stop it, you are NOT allowed to think about baby names" and then when I asked why and what he meant he just said "no no no" and refused to talk about it!
Yet....last week when we were on holiday with his daughter she was asking us about having babies, how many we want etc and we were talking about it all normally...I really thought we'd decided we were starting to try once we're married so I don't know what the problem is with me mentioning baby names?! It's not like I talk about it all the time or anything, at all! Argh! I don't get men sometimes!!!!!0 -
Hi daisiegg...that is a bit of an odd turn of events but I think men can be as contrary and hard to decipher as they often claim women are! Maybe give it a day or two and then ask him what his feelings are about babies? Is it possible he feels under pressure from some direction about it and that your innocent comment was just the straw that broke the camels back? (ie parents have been known to nag about these things and if he's just had an earful from him mum he may have been frustrated with that) Pure speculation, I know. The only way to find out what's really up is to talk to him...and find a way to get him to talk back!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

Evening everyone,
Well despite me doing all my sums to see the soonest we could start TTC, I didn't bank on the ruddy car deciding it doesn't want to live anymore!!!!!
Aaagghhh! Oh well, back to the calculator.
Daisiegg- I love trying to think of my perfect baby names. If OH tries to stop me I just start trying to come with the most ridiculous names I can think of just to peeve him (mature I know!) ;0)
