Those who are waiting to TTC

Once I have a baby, I had always decided to give up work. I am financially able to and I really want to be a full time mum until both kids are in primary school. My options are:
1) Get pregnant during the 3 year apprenticeship, I have no idea what will happen to the apprenticeship as I can't really carry it on if I'm pregnant/have a baby.
2) Finish the 3 year apprenticeship and be a full time mum and don't get the batchelors..
3) Finish the 3 year apprenticeship, go back part time and then do the extra 2 years later.
4) Do all 5 years first and then get pregnant.
I say start TTC after 3 months so you at least qualify for SMP...have a baby and be a stay at home mum..worry about the rest when they go back to school...
What is the point in potentially losing out on ever having a baby for a degree in something you might never go back to if you did have a baby???:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -

That is sort of how I feel but I have been trying to get this job for 3 years and don't really want to waste the chance I've been given.
Plus I will be working after the kids are at primary school and as this company hires loads of people each year, I was planning on going back to them. That should be possible because of the experience I would have.0 -
Hi All
Memoryoftrees I am hoping to try next August too when my PhD is finished. Good motivation to get all of this endless writing up done! I will be 31 then. Getting my implant out this September when it expires. I have had 2 in a row so time to reset cycles, as you say.
Olokia I think the key question is - do you want to do the apprenticeship? I think it sounds like a good opportunity though, from an outsider perspective. Does your age help you to make a decision?
Hugs to all

I really want to do this apprenticeship but I wish I had got it 3 years ago when I first applied there. Now, I have just got married so I want to start a family.
I am only 25 so I have plenty of time but I do have a health problem that means I will find pregnancy and looking after a small child harder when I am older.
Without a degree, I found it hard to find a job as most of the applications requested a batchelors degree.0 -
Olokia - ask yourself this: which would you regret the most if you missed out on the chance altogether? Having a baby or getting the degree (and the career)?
As others have said, the degree etc can be done later, but the baby part you might not be able to. Usually I would say that you're young, but given that you have a health condition which affects this, I don't think that is the best advice in this case.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Definitely I would regret missing out on having a baby.
Thinking about it I don't think much would happen if I became pregnant. As I understand, companies aren't allowed to discriminate against pregnant people so the most that could happen is I have to redo a year or something. If I forget about the full time mum part then I could probably do both.
Thanks everyoneI'll talk to my OH about it tonight

Hello All
I've been lurking for a while but I'd like to join please.
We are getting married in October so are waiting until we are married and have enjoyed our honeymoon (which is in February) before we actively try for a baby.
However in preparation I have been trying to get a better idea of my cycles, when I ovulate etc, so that when we are ready to try we know exactly when to DTD etc.
I've starting taking my temperature etc and am taking supplements in preparation and whilst I don't want to be pregnant before I've enjoyed our honeymoon as it may well be the last big holiday for a while I am keen to start TTC.
We have decided we will get rid of all contraception in January and take it from there.
I'm 35 and have been lurking on the TTC thread and am starting to get a bit worried about the amount of time some people have been trying but I guess we won't know how long we'll need until we TTC - if only we had a crystal ball eh!??
Welcome BabyMad! Congrats on the wedding; bet you are getting really excited now :j
You certainly sound very organised regarding TTC. I know exactly what you mean about a crystal ball though - my OH keeps saying "when we have a baby" and I keep going "you mean IF and when" I don't want to tempt fate and reading these threads it is clear that a lot can go wrong/not to plan. I also work in paediatrics and that worries me even more I start to think it must be a miracle to have a healthy pregnancy and baby and for it to continue to be healthy
I have started taking Pregnacare Conception His and Hers! OH does this funny little smile every time I hand him his after we have eaten (I have to give them to him or he would forget). I think it reminds him every day what we are working towards.
We are also looking for a 5 door car too (did I mention I didn't want to tempt fate? Oh well....) and have put the three door on Gumtree and Ebay to see what happens there soooo getting close to TTC time - six-eight weeks to go now
Blimey that was a long post, best go now before I take over the whole site!
Hugs to all feeling frustrated and upset particularly those who are having a hard time at work xxFirst baby due October 2013 :j0 -
I am sooo broody at the minute! I think its because lots of people I went to school with have started announcing pregnancies on facebook and posting scans etc. We are hoping to start TTC at some point next year but need to save a lot before then.
Does anyone else earn a lot more than their OH? I earn about 3 times what he does and I honestly wish it was the other way around. It is going to make having a baby realy difficult when we lose a lot of my earnings0 -
Hi Hopelass
Thank you for the welcome. I am starting to get excited about the wedding now, it seems to be coming around quite quickly now.
We sound like we are in similar positions and I told my OH that we would both have to start taking supplements after the wedding (3 months before we start trying properly) and he was a bit reluctant at first but at least I've planted the seed now and will continue to tell him the benefits so it won't come as such a surprise after the wedding :rotfl:
Are you taking your temperature etc too? I also have concerns about the pregnancy and healthy baby but that's just me worrying rather than experience in your job but I just think of all the healthy babies out there and keep my fingers tightly crossed we'll have one of those!?? Another case of not knowing until you try/crystal ball.
Good luck with the new car. We are considering a new house after the honeymoon too - a bigger family house so there will be lots going on in the next 6 months, exciting (if not scary!!) times.
I look forward to following your journey in the next 6-8 weeks :jGot married October 2012 :jHoping to conceive 20130 -
Well, my best male friend has just contacted me to tell me that he's got his 18 year old girlfriend up the duff. Great! He even finished with 'PS. I beat you to it Euro!'.
Thanks mate. No really, cheers.February wins: Theatre tickets0
