Absolute madness! It's not so much insensitive as it is spiteful!

Hi ladies can I join this thread please!
Just come over from the TTC board, we have been TTC no.3 since January, got pregnant in May but then m/c in July. Was originally going to start TTC again straight away but a big career opportunity has come up for me which I cant miss out on so going to hold off until January 2013.
I dont know whether to feel bad for going for this job (which is something I have wanted to do since being little) because I am planning on getting pregnant soon after if I do get it? If we do manage to have a baby this will be our last, I do plan on staying in the orgnisation long term (Im actually not changing employers, its basically moving from one branch of the civil service to another). But I dont want to leave it any longer as I dont want to start all over again after leaving a big age gap. Basically its in the near future or never.0 -
Welcome amus! If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about potentially taking maternity leave soon-ish after changing jobs if you're still in the civil service and it's just a new role...you should still be ok for the additional maternity benefits etc and I think public sector employers are generally quite good about seeing the long-term when they recruit so a period of maternity leave shouldn't upset anyone. It's hard to say how quickly you'll end up pg anyway so it may be a while before you end up taking leave.
Euro - your 'friend' sounds like a lovely chap! What a thing to say! Some people have an unbelievably immature and selfish outlook on the world. How long before he and his gf turn up on Jeremy Kyle?
Toothfairy - I know the broody feeling! I spent the weekend visiting friends who have little ones...a 2 year old and a 4 week old and both were little angels while I was there. The friend with the 4 week old kept saying how her only regret was waiting so long to have one (she didn't decide she wanted kids until she was about 35 and then it took her years to get pg). That really didn't help the argument in the logical side of my head that says I should wait until career things/house/finances are all in order before trying.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

You know, there is a good guy in there, but he just doesn't think before he opens his mouth sometimes! Plus, I think he thought he was being funny. Wrong crowd dude, wrong crowd.
I asked if they were planning to move out into their own place (as they live at his parents at the moment), and the answer was that they had no plans to move out for at least a few years yet. Despite him earning considerably more than I, and she works full time too. Things are waaaayy too comfortable for him there. I'm not sure he'll ever fly the nest, so to speak. Oh well. His life.
I am feeling really, really, really broody at the moment! My Mum sent me some lovely photos yesterday, of my youngest neice reaching her arms up to Daddy with a huge smile on her face. And me? I just show it to OH and say 'I want oneeeeeeeeeee!' :rotfl::rotfl:
It was also my youngest nephews birthday yesterday. He is now 1 year and 1 day old!My brother posted a short video on FB of him with his presents. He just decided to crawl all over them instead of open them! lol

euro - there must be some good in there or you wouldn't call him a friend but definitely the wrong joke for the audience!
After my broodiness inducing weekend I made things worse by watching the new midwife programme on BBC last night. It's so different from One Born Every Minute! It really made me feel like our circumstances shouldn't be putting us off trying....if teenagers and people who have no cooker (and a bath in the kitchen!) manage then we certainly could too!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Yeah, he is the sort of friend that I can usually be very honest and a bit brutal with to be honest. If we'd been face to face, my reaction would probably have been something like this:
"Don't be an insensitive little pr!ck xxxxx boy! Get back to your tea fetching duties instead. Chop! Chop!'
and he'd just laugh at that. I wasn't in the right frame of mind on Monday though.
I know what you mean browneyedbazzi! Must be good and patient, must be good and patient, must be good and patient!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

I watched the same programme last night and pretty much thought the same! If they can ( somehow?! ) manage without a cooker ( I mean really?! ) then it kind of makes me feel petty for thinking we should really get the laminate replaced and downstairs painted before having a baby :rotfl:
Euronorris I think men can sometimes try to make light of a situation without thinking and clearly this time he's caused upset, but I wouldn't take it to heart, men can sometimes just be insensitive at times without even realising.
