  • Attempted to open an account with them on 15/11/06 and, as requested, posted copies of my council tax bill and passports the same day.

Five days later these were returned to me with a letter of thanks.

Almost 3 Weeks later (today) I received another letter from them saying copies are not acceptable and they need originals, at no stage was this previously advised.

I considered this to be a very poor example of their efficiency so I sent an email to their customer services.

Later I received an automated reply saying they will get back to me in 10 working days.
Well I do not wish to do business with a company that takes 10 days to answer their emails so I will not be investing with Icesave.

It's fairly clear that recently they've been blitzed with new applications, and they're struggling to cope. It's a great account when it's up and running though.

I found registration very simple, quick and easy - but I got an account before the ING exodus started. I also quite like the website and the direct debit way of shifting cash about. The only problem is that I can't view the account via Egg Money Manager yet. I'm not going to blame Landsbanki for that though!

No complaints from me, account opening went smoothly even though I had to send ID to them. Initial payments and subsequent direct debit payments have all gone smoothly as well.

And to the people who have 'missed' the DD part of the online application: how did you think the account could work without it?
BACS? Like my YBS Internet Saver does (although there's no excuse for a failure to read the T&C's, FAQ's, and the information you're presented with during the application).
That is a fundamental part of any online application.
"Any online application"? It wasn't a "fundamental" part of my YBS Internet Saver online application.

Maybe they just wanted the original Council Tax bill because, according to the Icesave FAQ's, whilst the Driving Licence and Passport can be copies, the Council Tax bill has to be an original.

Just a follow-up to the above, yesterday I finally received a reply to my Email, telling me the copy documents I sent are OK after all, and my account is now open !!!

    What a bunch of incompetents!!

There is no way I will be investing with an outfit that does not answer the phone and takes a Month to reply to Emails, just imagine if you needed to sort out a problem with you money.

Best advice – FIND ANOTHER SAVINGS ACCOUNT !!!
  • I had problems getting through to CS on the phone, but then i was ringing at lunch time. So I decided to ring the next day at 8:05am and was through to someone within 30seconds. (Although it was my own fault for forgetting my password). Otherwise the whole process has been quite a nice experience as experiences with new sttart ups go.
I was also assured that they have taken on more staff to counter the number of queries they getting, but you have to understand they need to train these people if you want them dealing with you efficiently.

All in all...I'm sticking with Icesave! I think it can only improve.

I emailed them this morning and got an automated reply saying they may not be able to respond to my query for fifteen days!
