You don't have to pay to take your money out of Icesave. You just withdraw to one of your nominated accounts.

The only time you would pay is if you elected to have your money transferred to another bank through CHAPS. This would happen anywhere.

I thought was a good move to invest my money into icesave but I was wrong have to pay to take the money out so I close off the account by telephone. Then they ring me up saying write down in letter to close off my account how wierd is that!.

It states quite clearly on the web site that if you choose to transfer your cash quickly via the chaps system it will cost you £30 as is common with other financial institutions but if you use their normal DD method then you don't pay. AFAIAA it takes around 3 days for transfers to take place, I set one up on Tuesday and the money is destined to be in the account on Thursday. One good thing with Icesave is they tell you the exact day the transfer will take place so you can 'plan' ahead.

I imagine they only need a letter if you wish to close down the account, not to transfer funds, again this is common with other banks.:)

That's right. Incidentally, the cut-off time is 11.00am. Request a transfer before 11.00am on Tuesday and the money arrives in your linked account on Thursday. Leave it until after 11.00am and the transfer takes one day longer.

I set up an Icesave account around 9 days ago. I received my welcome pack and DD confirmation within 2 or 3 days. However I have yet to receive my user ID which the welcome pack said would follow shortly.

I haven't depositied any money because I though I would do that once I had access to my account. My question is do I have to send a cheque for the opening amount before they send my user ID or should I wait a few days yet for it?

Now I didn't know that and it is very useful info! :j:j

    Thanks:)

No you can wait until you have your login details before depositing any money.

OK thanks. I just hope it arrives soon then.
  • My wife has had real problems with ICESAVE. A terrible service. They said they would accept a copy of her passport certified from the post office in order to open her account. We paid for this, but then they refused to accept it saying that they no longer accepted certified copies from the post office. When pressed to give me a date when they had recieved this notice they refused to say. We then asked to close the account. They recieved a letter on the 31st August 2007 saying that the funds should be sent back to the originating account, but after numerous calls we still have not had our money back. I intend to write and complain to them directly.
  • Here is the 'geographical' phone no. for Ice Save. Cheaper than 0845
