Bag stolen in store on Oxford Street
Comments
-
I was in a city centre pub just before xmas one year and was absolutely astounded when the couple on the next table left their table to go outside for a cigarette leaving a very expensive brand new laptop under the table. It would have been very easy for someone to help themselves particularly as this pub has two exits meaning they wouldn't even have known it was gone until it was too late.
I am also amazed at the number of food shoppers who I see browsing the carrots ? leaving their bag in their trolley unattended.
I really feel for you that your bag was stolen - I cannot think of anything worse.0 -

"The security guard told us it happens all the time and the thieves usually snatch your bag and take out what they want while still in the store and then dump your bag somewhere in the shop. When they close the store in the evenings and have a tidy up they find stolen bags stashed all over. I called the store the next morning and they told me it hadn't shown up so I assumed everything was taken. BUT the following morning (2 days later) the store called and said they found my bag!!
This whole situation makes me think it could be the staff, there were no customers near us at the time my bag was taken. I think the staff probably take the bags out the back to rummage through and since they are working they cant leave the store so they have to dump the bag somewhere in the shop. Surely if it was a member of the public they would just take the bag and get out of the store rather than sit somewhere in the shop (??) "
Sherlock Holmes, don't give up the day job.
You saw nothing, you weren't there, there were no customers near, so how did you know that if you weren't there? If it was staff, why didn't your friend see it?
The reasons thieves dont take the handbags out is
a) if stopped by police they would be found in possession of the evidence-the bag.
b)Cash could be stuffed inside their clothing-a handbag couldn't.
c) who said they would sit it the shop? Whos going to notice someone looking in what appears to be their own bag,in such a very busy shop, they would just root in it within a rail of clothes, and dump it under a rail,no wonder it took the shop 2 days to find it.
Your friend just cant accept she took her eyes off it,she may herself have been deliberately distracted.
Often one person steals, and another person will have the money etc passed to them.Purse thieves often work in teams, they are damn clever.
I just came back from Oxford street and I would never carry a handbag there, let alone put one down.Another place that handbags get stolen is in cafes.A lot of cafes have a hook under the table and tell you to put your handbag there.0 -

I found a website that sells handbag hooks, they're great for places like cafes, pubs, restaurants so you can keep your eye on your bag and also keep it off the floor.
I bought quite a few for presents and everyone is intrigued by them.
