my point still stands, your bag your responsibility,

im a guy so i dont have the issue of bags, have you tried not taking a hand bag(is it possible for females to not take a hand bag)

not being rude or anything as its a genuine question

Impossible, not to take a handbag! I would be seriously lost in London without my handbag. Us ladies need more than just keys and money -most men don't even seem to own a wallet!

It could have been anyone but in Oxford St. you just have to be so aware of people around you, not just in the shops but in the pavements as well. It's a well know fact that pickpockets operate all over Oxford St.

Have you thought about getting an over the shoulder bag? It's much safer and you can keep it on your body at all times and try on shoes without worrying about it being stolen.

How do you know that the staff are innocent? Do you know them personally?

    Innocent until proven guilty.

Are you sure about that? From reading the papers I'm sure the rule is innocent until speculated guilty...

I'm female and I rarely use a handbag. Hate having them dangling from my shoulder and they get filled up with all sorts of carp.

    what really happened ?

i work in retail and the number of people that leave their handbags lying around is amazing, handbags with purses, mobile phones, i even had a laptop in laptop bag once at lost property, no self awareness or awareness of others whatso ever

i even followed and lost a customer who left her rucksack hooked on a rail and when i found her again she was back in the area she left it and hadnt even noticed it had gone !

members of the public really need to pay attention to their belongings, dont put them down or walk away from them ever, even if the shop is or appears to be empty of other customers, its also a huge security risk

do you really thiink a member of staff would risk their job for what might be in a handbag ? there are cameras and store tecs watching in most shops

What about manbags? Make you look completely gay, obviously, but they're ever so practical.

Was minded when I lived near the smoke and if we ventured into a pub or other place, first rule was wallet stuffed in right trouser pocket, tightly. Bags, if any, tied under chair leg.

    That was in 1980

I note with regret dispite 31 years of education and effort, tea leaves still operate in areas of opportunity.

Oh and thanks to the geezer in Sainsburys back in Xmas 2001. he waltzed off with what he thought was a bag of dreams, tied to my trolley. He actually got a bag of reuseable bags and hot air.

Handbag is a bit of a misnomer.

For most of the females I know, 'life support system' would be nearer the truth.

In this country it's innocent until proven guilty. You have no proof.

I have a sports bag or a small rucksack or satchel with me 90% of the time, I don't always have room in my pockets for book, specs, phone, multi-tool etc. I don't dress well enough to be gay though.
